Holy sh!t, 14:25 thru 5k...I assumed Bekele was messing with us when he said 61 for the half, but I guess not...

I don't want to second guess the king but I assume this is a terrible strategy? does anyone think it actually makes sense?

These announcers don't know that the split is 2:55 flat per km (just under like 2:44.94 or something). So it's 14:35 per 5k. THey are well under pace.

Why does anyone need a free stream? THe race has been on for 20 minutes for me and I haven't watched more than 10 seconds of it. I just am hearing two guys babble and going to the site in Germany every now and then.

What is Bekele wearing? I can 100% guarantee you that Galen Rupp would not be dressed in black. Are these guys stupid? I'd wear a white singlet 100% of the time.

Fat Ethiopian is not impressed

The 2017 Dubai Marathon takes place at 9:30 pm ET and Kenenisa Bekele wants the WR. We are going to do a special live podcast with Sean Hartnett - the Professor of the Marathon - from 8:50 pm to 9:20 pm ET to get you ready. Hartnett has watched every single men's WR in person since 1988.

Sean sent us an email this morning with an update on the weather.

Dew point has dropped a bit to 61 and will fall further to 59 at start and 57 at finish. Far from ideal, but much better than the 65 forecast just days ago. Light ESE wind is also mostly a cross wind - 68 at start and stay at 68 through half, then rise to 71 at finis - via Weather Underground. Again not perfect - but I think that the weather is breaking Kenenisa's way 9 hours from start.
You can see that I too am a little anxious - as I have seen every WR since 1998 - and usually under such circumstances I'm packing my bags like an expert seismologist heading anywhere in the world to be in place 'when the big one blows.'
