You should have been a citizen (not dual citizen) of a country for at least 10 years to represent it in the Olympics.

The problem is many LRC posters are liberal beta cuck hippies who have a deep fear of confrontation, fighting, manliness, competition and anything else that involves being an alpha male. As such, they cannot relate to people who serve in the Armed Forces and despite much more limited training and opportunities, manage to make the Olympic team.

We invaded Afgahastan...No really good reason
We invaded Saudi Arabia having the most to do with 911, oh wait we didn't...Oil
We only tried to Kill Castro like 27 times , Why and what do we get out it...
Jessica Lynch story complete fraud and people still believe she was a true hero.
Pat Tillman killed by his own men. American hero and complete fraud of a story.
Largest part of the US buget every year, The Military.
We should not be the police of the world, our soldiers should only be put in harms way to deal with real Problem's, Hitler and World war II is a great example.
Remember that if ISIS was in Africa they would be called something like Boko Harem and we would not be bothered by them much.
If location and resources have everything to do with where our soldiers are stationed and put in harms way, that is not OK and Never should be.
Since we now have an all volunteer service branch's. The majority of people don't care much until service people die in big numbers.
Since Vietnam it's no longer a shared sacrifice anymore but it's still a shared cost.
The only true born Americans are the Indians. Everyone else are immigrants. Funny how most Americans don't even know or get their own history.

I'll reiterate that the US should be the place where the best in the world at all endeavors come to battle it out. That leaves everyone better off. I want to live in a place where a French born chef can put the local guy out of business if the local guy isn't great at what he does, just as I want to live in a place where the home grown runners have to step it up to beat all-comers if they want a spot.
Do you think Rupp or Goucher would have been better off if they'd run in a watered down NCAA with protectionist policies? The system doesn't "go against" any Americans who deserve to compete on the world stage.

So oil was the reason for invading Iraq and not invading Saudi Arabia? I'm confused.

Nailed it. It's hard to stand behind a group of Africans who were recruited (paid) to go to college here and run and without that, they wouldn't be here.
Frankly, it's something I've been against for a long time, starting with college. Public funded scholarships should NOT go to international students (Yes, I realize that Iona where Korir went is private).

You mean we shouldn't have athletic scholarships? I completely agree.
This!!! People don't get that they're living the American Dream. Immigrants moving to the US, joining the Army of all places, and competing for the USA. They didn't have to join the Army they could've got sponsors from shoes companies. Real Americans.

So let's just pay Kenyans and Ethiopians to come here and compete for the US. They'll come in droves if we just provide them training facilities and the basics for living. It's cheap and it's pretty much guaranteed to work.
Let's become like Qatar. Don't give a sh|t about the culture that made the country great, let's just buy fame and fortune.

Yep. There is a difference between those who chose to be here. Versus those who are here through an accident of birth
In general, on the idea of "being American," these have always been my criteria. Any of the below would basically erase any concerns I have of someone's "American-ness."
1. they have lived longer in the US than anywhere else
2. when push comes to shove they have done something to favor the US over their home country
3. putting their life on the line for another American (this includes everything from military to first responders)
Regardless of your citizenship status, I think any of those things basically erases the validity of any nationalist criticism.
Can someone help me find the tread where all the Peruvians were protesting David Torrence coming to run for them? Oh yeah, there was none because they are excited to have a quality athlete. We should be happy to have a stronger team. It's not like any of the guys who didn't make the team had any shot at a medal. I do feel a little bad for the guys who didn't make it only because they didn't get much chance to face or get to know their new competitors like they know the others who they have been racing for many years, often from high school on.

In one of the Asian athletics competition, perhaps two years ago, the top six athletes in teh 10,000m (I think) were former Ethiopians and former Kenyans.
This also happened in other races.
The other countries not named Bahrain and Qatar complained that these two countries had bought athletes and had compromised the sport.
THEY WERE RIGHT!
Now, America's case is different. The US of A doesn't buy athletes.
I don't know whta the argument is here.
Your president is a son of an immigrant.

I had the good luck to randomly happen to be born in the US through no thought or effort of my own. These guys uprooted their lives to move half way around the world and complete the process of becoming citizens. If my dumb luck gives me the right to call myself American and compete for this country, their sacrifice and effort sure as hell earns them the same right.
America should be about competition from all-comers. We're all made better when we say "let the best in the world come here and we'll all fight like dogs to be the best at what we do."
Thank you.
