reinstatement of the flip technique would make the long jump more exciting

Discus is most boring to me...the throwing motion isn't very interesting. Shot put is small enough in scale that it works well on TV in my view. LJ/TJ aren't all that exciting - too much about hitting the board properly and not scratching.

Always found Triple Jump the most boring. If it is full coverage the run throughs suck and it just seems so contrived. I think broad jump would be better even. Though I wish they would replace it with creek jumping. Have the rules like high jump and see how far someone can jump over water, not get wet and land without touching the ground. Prolly why its boring is bc I am always daydreaming. Agree with others on the throws after this other then javelin.
Now in Decathlon I would say things get more interesting since there is so much more going on with points but many of the things are less impressive. Pole vault decathlon is one that goes down but I like watching more "normal" people do the other field events.
It has to be the 1500 meters for the deaf.

Let's hear your rankings and reasoning.
Please include the jumps.
(later we can rank the track events)
Also there is some debate how the line on TV has improved the events and whether we can differentiate from watching in person or on TV.
Triple jump. I have no intellectual basis for not liking it, just think its stupid.
All field events are much more excisting when watching live - if close to the action.
I find discus and shot more boring generally whereas the javelin is great to watch. Perhaps that is because we used to have good javeling throwers like Backely so got into it
Most boring:
Shot put
Triple jump
Long jump
Most exciting:
Pole vault
High jump
How people can like triple jump but not like racewalking bottles my mind.
You omitted discus. I find it fun to watch. The grace and spin are awesome.
I always found cutting the hay the most boring field event. I wasn't too fond of weeding the carrots either.
Triple jump is stupid, cancel that and bring back the standing broad jump.
Most boring to most exciting:
Hammer throw: I just don't get it. I know that they are incredible athletes but the athleticism involved in spinning (a fairly unnatural skill) I've always found hard to wrap my mind around
Decathlon: Also super impressive but I'd honestly rather watch Eaton do the hurdles
Pole Vault: I don't like importance of an implement, also they seem to fail so often
Discus: better than hammer because of heritage
Shot put/Javelin: can be entertaining but they're too quick, not enough drama in the build up
Long jump: I like watching old videos from the hang days more than the present crop
Triple Jump: Go Gators! (I've started a thread about the triple jump and why I think it's cool)
High Jump: Barshim vs Bondarenko was some of the most exciting track I've seen. I love the skill and gamesmanship too. A nice balance of tension and action

Womens high jump is awful, most of the athletes are far taller than the bar
We used to have this beautiful female high jumper that we loved to watch practice and see her legs fly over her butt.

You're really good at the internet.
Also, no elite high jumper is taller than the bar.
Also I hope the field eventers on here start one for track and rip us to shreds haha
What's the old joke, the only thing more boring than track is field.
The only thing more boring than field, in my opinion, is separating the finals of the 4x4 at nationals into three heats on time.
Most boring to least boring, in groups:
Shot
Discus
Hammer
Long jump
Triple jump
High jump
Javelin
Pole Vault

All of the throws apart from javelin are equally as awful. Long jump or triple jump are easily the most exciting field events.
no way, the Vaults are the most exciting field events. The long jump is boring

Well, if we use auto racing analogies to rate these events; the events with the most opportunity for spectacular wrecks would be most fun. That would be the pole vault for sure. Next would be hurdles and the steeple chase. Ahhhh, steeple chase wrecks. You feel bad for the athletes but what fun it is to see half dozen runners belly flop over the barrier into the water pit.
Triple jump most boring, they should add a judged acrobatic freestyle component to it to make it more interesting. A couple of backflip twists before cashing into the pit. Most flair with longest distance wins.
Most boring to least boring:
Long jump
Triple jump
High jump
Pole vault
Shot
Discus
Hammer
Javelin
