Well, in this race his last lap had nothing to do with anything. He was done with 4 laps to go.

Rupp was going for the American Record and ran out of gas, which is understandable after three races and two 5th place finishes at the World Championships. That was a grueling double in hot conditions, with lots of travel and time zone changes thrown in. He still managed to hang on and run 13:08 today. Yet, he gets crucified on this board by people who have no hope of ever running even a mile at that pace. Pretty pathetic.

Let's face it, he's just not "elite" on a global level. If a Kenyan guy had his times and competitive record you wouldn't even know his name, let alone remember it five years later.
He is a John Korir level talent. Comparable to Micah Kogo at best.

Unlike the many guys who also raced in Beijing, as well as much busier schedules all summer?
Please.
It's true that Rupp has lost the kick he displayed in London. If you look back at the 10k field though, the guys he beat other than Farah were a on-his-last-legs Kenenisa Bekele and Tariku who has since disappeared from the scene. In other words, the 5/10k competition has gotten much tougher since then. Even though he didn't medal I'm quite impressed with Rupp's double fifth places at the WC. I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do in that 10M road run. If Rupp does well, a 10k/marathon double would be pretty interesting. If the Olympic schedule is the same as Worlds with the 10k first and the marathon last, it would be physically possible. Rupp would have to run the marathon trials, though.
I am so impressed by the creativity displayed on many of the posts here.

That's a dumb comment. Tell me which other athletes in this race today competed in both the 5K and 10K in the World Championships, let alone placed top 5 in both? The answer is none except Rupp.
PLEASE

At the end of the day he's going home devastated.
But have faith, they'll reconfigure the sauce, bribe some more officials, off some media and competition and it'll all be good in Rio. Capriotti, Salazar, Knight, Lord Coe et al. will see to it.

I disagree. I most certainly would remember the Olympic silver medallist at 10,000. If it was just Worlds, I might get it confused a few years later (did that guy get 2nd third or 4th) but i'd definitely remember it.

Wow, how creative!
I don't get it, why did anyone think the American 5000m record was ever under threat by Rupp? Much less Hill and True hahaha

Rupp believed so.
Total bogus BS that this thread was made "super hot" per bro johnsons claim
That that distinction is automated by an algorithm.
Liars, pimps, liars.
I think that Rupp (and AlSal) have to re-evaluate his racing strategy.
Watch the 10K at the WC...
Rupp always seems to be chopping his stride.
Conventional wisdom is to not lead, but maybe he would be better served as a front runner, especially since his kick is only fair.

The claims by NOP-fanboys has been that Rupp's performances are partly based on Salazar perfecting Rupp's form. If that is not the case then how did Rupp set the 10k AR? Something beyond form?
Lets face it.
All the americans got spanked .
End of season races are binary; magical or a let down .
As for 'super hot' on lrc; its a lrc brothers magical mystery tour.
Looking forward to miss paula admitting guilt and the lrc brothers shutting down the site as they have vowed.....
