We just merged 3 different threads saying the same thing. This will be the only thread.
He could barely hang with AR pace for half of the race. True ran right by him. HILL ran right by him. He barely placed ahead of Mo Ahmed.
Calling it right now: Rupp is a likely DNS at the 10-miler in Holland. If he starts, Wilson Kipsang will show the world just how soft Rupp's "Olympic silver" really was. A big-boy world elite probably beats Rupp by 30 seconds in a 10-miler.
Placed 5th at the IAAF World Championships at 5,000m
He'll move up to the marathon and retire after Rio.
That's a big pb for Ryan Hill at 13:05.62. His previous pb was 13:14.22.
That's a Canadian record and bib pb for Mo Ahmed at 13:10.00. His previous pb was 13:18.88. The previous Canadian record was 13:13.96 and belonged to Jeff Schiebler.
You idiots don't understand how this race worked. Galen went out at the AR pace. He wasn't going for place, he going to set the AR. If he was going for place, he would have spanked True and Hill like he did in the WC.
How come there's no threads about what sissies Hill and True are for not going for the AR?

We've now merged 4 threads into one.

PS. I forgot to tell everyone. Much like everyone else in the sport, I am now a global ambassador for Nike. We no longer feel the youth of the world should hear 10 anti-Rupp threads at once.

When can we see the new LRC logo branded with "The Swoosh"?

You either go for time or go for place. You should know what kind of shape you are in before the race.
No shame in going for the AR but he missed it by a LARGE margin. It wasn't even close. He completely lost it.
How does the GREAT Al Sal f*ck this up so bad? It's almost like Solinsky was there to spank for the last 3 laps.
You're always overstating to draw out fanboys but I see it like this:
Rupp just didn't have it tonight. Either tired or just a bad day. Overall I believe Rupp is still a notch above both True and Hill at 5,000. 10,000 goes without saying. And hey at least he didn't DNF like in that past.
That said, I don't really see him medalling again at 10,000, and 5,000 is out of the question.
Back in 2012 it looked like Rupp was developing into a guy that would compete for medals consistently, especially in light of that 13:2x race where he closed in 52 to beat Lagat. He had some of that the Olympics too, but since then has not rediscovered that ability to accelerate and finish in 52-54 which you MUST do to medal at championships. Whether those two races were incredible flukes, or a result of what he was doing in training I can't say, but three years removed from showing a semblance of final lap ability required to medal it's hard to envision that speed re manifesting itself.
I do think he can still challenge 26:40 and possibly the AR in the 5,000m, but when it comes to medaling it doesn't seem possible. It's been three years since he briefly found, then promptly lost, his approaching world class closing speed.

There is this thing that happens called a "bad day". When a "bad day" happens you don't have quite the same fitness, or ability to bring that fitness.
Moreover, if you have fitness it just barely run 12:53, and you got out at that pace on a bad day you generally crater over the later stages of the race and get a poor result.
And, some runners have a habit of shutting it down a little once the goal is out of reach. Whether that's the case with Rupp or not we can't know, but that could factor as well.
I'm not a Rupp fanboy by any means, just throwing this idea out there:
What if AlSal/Rupp are just using the non-Olympic years to tweak/play with training techniques to see how Rupp responds?
I agree that in 2012 Rupp looked like a guy that was turning into a consistent contender, but he has not been able to match that yet. I'm wondering if we'll see that same guy get 2nd in the 10k next year if they realize he just can't beat Mo (after these 3 years of racing and tweaking).
The real question is can True medal? Nope.
Because of the controversy, they had to tweak the supplements a little more on the conservative side.
He should have gone to Ethiopia to train.

Interesting thought. I don't think this is super likely, given that they probably place a good emphasis on WCs too, but it's a possibility, especially combined with what seemed to be a little more emphasis on strength in 2014.
I'll be interested to see what Rupp does bring to the table in 2016. He has to re-discover that ability to close in lower 50s. I'll try to remember this is Rupp once again manifests a good close 8 months from now.
No squirts, no medals.

More like they are tweaking his injections.
