Great week overall for me, and my highest volume week since February. I wanted to make the most of it since my younger brother is getting married in Ohio on Saturday and my upcoming week includes a 7 hour car ride Thursday, a large family barbecue Friday, a wedding Saturday, and a 7 hour car ride on Sunday. I am not sure how much running I will be able to fit in, but I will feel better about it having got this past week under my belt now.
My favorite hill workout went splendidly. Averaged 1.9secs/rep faster on the “ups” than I did three weeks ago. I really blasted that last one this time, and I while I didn’t have another gear to go to at the end, I felt like I could have sustained that same pace/effort for another 200-400m if I had to. Felt REALLY strong.
Friday I was helping pace a buddy of mine (he’s 56 years old!) for his last long tempo before the Utica Boilermaker 15K in a couple weeks. It worked out well for me that his current 15K pace is roughly my goal marathon pace, so it was great practice for both of us without having to do the work ourselves. I feel like I could sustain that effort for about 20-25k right now, which is about where I want to be with my fitness.
I was really surprised with how fast my pickups were on today’s run. I did luck out by hitting quite a few of the downhill stretches during the :30 segments, but as luck would have it, I hit the biggest hill of the route for the 10th rep (and still managed 5:07/mi pace for that segment). I suspect I will be feeling this one tomorrow, haha.
Hope everyone else had a great week.
