In this instance he would, I believe, be faking sympathy instead of empathy.

I am a Teg fan, and agree he's a really good guy. Based on a couple of different interactions, not surprising to see him there consoling Mo's daughter.

But the above regarding Rupp bears a response.

Ask Rupp's old high school team if he's ever helped young, aspiring runners. Ask them if he's ever taken time to speak with them before the state meet, given them inspiration, suggestions, assistance. Just because you haven't heard about it, doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

This doesn't really merit being labeled as "helping young, aspiring runners" but it's probably as good as it will ever get for him and saladbar:

People who say "just saying" or "no offense" are the worst.

But you're right... makes more sense to assume he is whispering "That's your daddy on the ground AND HES GONNA DIE".....

It was nice of Teg to do that. Very positive.

Why does this have to turn into a negative thread about Rupp?

Have we ever seen Rupp present at a site of a collapsed competitor whose daughter is steps away?

And can we stop acting like runners have hug people who beat them and invite them to a barbecue? Sportsmanship calls for a handshake. How many times have you seen college coaches have a half second handshake?

Mo's daughter is there because Alberto sent her in to protest and have Teggs DQ'd for being anywhere near his athlete when he fell.

I'm a big fan of Teg's, but when was the last time he was relevant? His career has had more Webb character than Rupp character. Flashes of brilliance followed by obscurity.

My point is, Rupp has been great for every one of the last 5 or so years, capping it all with his silver. He's a threat in every race he runs. And he hasn't stopped improving yet.

I guess my underlying point is, I'd prefer to root for our successful US guys than bash them on public forums.
