Darn it, the Wannamaker Mile is 'sposed to be in Madison Square Garden, and the race should be run around ten in the evening. That's what Marty Liquori said when I was a kid. I'm with Marty on this.
Congrats Leer.

And the two times are equivalent.
I don't see any evidence that he will run any faster outdoors.
I say this because I don't think it "translates" to a faster outdoor time unless he isn't in top fitness now.
But it sure is a nice time and it was a great race.
His progression since 2008:

3:37

i would never view a guy like Leer, Torrence, Bumbi, Braun, etc. as a choker...just because they've gotten 4th/5th/6th at nattys & can't make an OG/WC team doesn't mean you choked. it can just mean you're the 3rd/4th/5th best guy when June (or Feb in this case) rolls around ALL THE TIME. no shame in that. but they'll keep plugging away with hope of being THE GUY at some point, so maybe this is a sign Leer is poised to make that breakthrough.

Just lucky that Lalang tanked at the end.
Didn't it look like Willis or maybe LaLang would have won that race had Willis not bumped into LaLang in then final 40m meter or so?

Seriously, he isn't choking. He just isn't as good as the top 3, consistently.
Will Lear is so much winning! Such fast! Monumental achievement!
3:52=3:34, winning a tactical finish around other runners on a 200m track. He is in 3:32 Monaco fitness at minimum. Definitely a breakthrough race, where breakthroughs are measured by time PLUS wins.

Agreed! I hope Leer has had another break through. I love his story ... Didn't ever make state in high school cross country, blossoming in DIII...
Peaked too soon? well at least he will have his name etched onto that trophy. That sure counts for something. And likely an open invite to be in that race for the next year or two. There are plenty of great names not on that trophy.
WILL LEER WILL BREAK THE WORLD RECORD THIS OUTDOOR SEASON 3:42 YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST
In all seriousness, it's so great to see how he's improved. Beating Nick Willis and Lawi is a huge accomplishment for him. I really hope he makes worlds and does well there.
You actually think he's clean??
He never performs when it counts. Never been on a championship team. Him and his stupid hipster beard will flame out in outdoors just like last year. His act is old.

When Walker first broke 3:50 (1975 - 3:49.4 WR) he ran under the existing WR (3:33 Ryun) the yr before in Christchurch. Bayi set the WR with a 3:32.1. In 1975 when he set the mile WR he ran his all-time fastest 1500 (3:32.4). Even though he went on to compete for 15 more yrs, he never ran faster for 1500m, and he ran 3:49.X for the mile many times.
When Coe set the WR for the mile (3:48.95) he also ran the WR for the 1500, 3:32.03.
Ditto for Ovett when he ran 3:48, he was the frist to run 3:31.
When Maree ran 3:48 he also ran 3:31.
sub-3:50y is much closer aligned with 3:32-3:32.5 than a 3:35 PR.
The conversion is .926 which makes 3:50.00 equivalent to 3:32.98.
3:35.5 is equivalent to 3:52.7y.

indoor times are getting faster......most runners can't beat their indoor times out on the track. same goes for Leer, but still a nice run Sat, beating Willis!

Is this an actual quote? If so, can you imagine the LR response if Rupp said the same?
Crazy kick... Wholly cow.... This guy really stole it. Everybody looked like they were in slow mo when he was barrelling down the finish,! !!!! Just WOW!

This.
Dude never peaks when it counts. He'll run a hobby-jogger race at nationals and never make a Worlds team.
True, but he continues to improve and impress every year. He'll get his break, he's got the chops.
If he keeps spacing out the lap count, he could win world's! But he can't test positive for cannabis, right?
