Eugene Pioneer Cemetery will be bought by Nike for the new 70,000 Hayward Fiel, and 6 story parking structure with zero impact on student and local neighborhood parking. Awesome.
Come to Oregon
You know Eugene Worlds is a sure thing.
Wouldn't it be cheaper to make a track inside the football stadium? Can't it already seat 60k?
I can't wait for the new Eugene Intercontinental Airport to be built at the cost of $10 Billion Dollars to Nike.
If they are to do it right, here's what they should do:
Build a new world class track facility just south of Hayward field. There's enough room, just barely. It needs to seat 40,000+ (at least with temporary bleachers installed), as the IAAF minimum of 30,000 is hard to profit from because you have to give away thousands of tickets to officials and their families.
Tear down the outer structures around Hayward Field, but keep the track as you need it per IAAF as a warm-up track.
High speed rail line between Eugene and Portland to piggy-back on Portland's international airport and hotel rooms.
Personally, I would also try to build a world-class indoor track facility. This would also double as a press/media zone during any World or National Championship.
Relocate the softball field (Howe Field) elsewhere to build a parking garage and/or the indoor track facility.
A 70,000 seat venue is needed to WIN the bid. The current Hayward Field would remain as the required warm-up field. The cemetery, fire station, and surrrounding homes will have to be acquired by imminent domain. Costly multi-level parking structures would have zero impact on local Eugene residents. The airport would need long runways to handle jumbo jets. A new convention center would be required to be built. New 5 star hotels and the downtown area would have to be rebuilt. The state would have to build a new teleport.
The state needs to build a new teleport???? Holy shit, these WC bids are more serious than I thought. Although, if they build a teleport, travel to Eugene will be not be a problem.
Fat chance on winning a WC, WXC, or WIC bid for Eugene.
Eugene and adjacent cities such as Springfield are required by IAAF & IOC rules to be 100% Green cities.
It would cost Lane County taxpayers a fortune to install centralized traffic control required to efficiently move traffic to lower vehicle emmissions and cut green house gases.
Lane County taxpayers simply doesn't have the industry and tax base to upgrade sanitation and water treatment facilities, and hire staff to enforce international Green regulations, medical waste, hazardous chemical waste, etc.
It's not going to happen in my lifetime.
Lane County is a very poor county.
Has anyone seen Vin Lannana's goverment birth certificate ?

A football stadium CANNOT be used for the Worlds for multiple reasons. First, it has the wrong configuration of length and width for a good track stadium. Second, Field and Track requires a FLAT infield made of grass and with various runways inside and outside the oval. There are other considerations as well, but at the present time there are really no US stadiums that would pass muster for the IAAF. Other considerations include the presence of a practice track in close proximity.
It only takes a few days for crews to bring truckloads of dirt to raise the surface on a football field, and lay a track and runways.
Unless the U.S. and Islam can negotiate a permanent peace, and handove colonial possessions in Palestine and the Middle East to local residents, politics will kill any chance of the U.S. winning the necessary votes. In other words, don't even waste the funds it would cost to submit a bid.

Odd, I don't seem to remember America's relations with Israel to be an issue back in the 90's...
but Eugene isn't going to win an Olympic bid any time soon for plenty of other reasons at any rate.
Uh... the U.S. was neutral in the 1990's. After taking office in 2001 W. Bush cut off negotiations effectively declaring war on the Arabs and Caucasians. Since then 150,ooo US troops, 100,ooo US mercenaries, and millions of US settlers occupied the Middle East. Obama has promised to remove most troops but will leave 40,ooo to prop up the US puppet regimes, and will leave millions of European settlers. There's NO chance in hell of the US gaing enough votes for the OG, WXC, WIC, or WC unless Vin Lannana wins the U.S. Presidency in 2016.
The Greeks tried to avoid politics in the Olympics. Wonder how they did ?
No question Phil Knight and Vin Lananna would like to see the World Championships in Oregon in either 2017 or 2019. I believe that the PGE Park in Portland will be the location for the championshps. It currently seats 23,000 and can easily be expanded with temp seating to near 35,000. By holding the Championships in Portland, Nike gets greater visibility, it is a mere two hour drive from the track mecca of Eugene, lodging is more than adequate, PDX is a large enough airport, sponships will be easier t secure than in Eugene. The template for Nike's involvement (though this will be an Oregon Track Club bid) was set at the World Masters Championships in 1994. OTC bid for it, Nike took the main sponsorship and sports venues were in both Portland and Eugene.
This would be a typical Vin and Phil "out of the box" vision, and it would very likely win over anywhere else in the world.
I now believe, based on the last interviews with Vin, that Oregon will absolutely win a WC's bid. If not Eugene, Portland.
I do expect, since PK is not getting any younger, that the remodel of Hayward Field, and building of an indoor track facility will all be put on a faster track now that 2012 Trials are over.
Already awarded:
2012 London
2013 Moscow
2015 Beijing
2016 Rio de Janiero
2017 London
2019 ?
The Semitic and Caucasian countries have already stated they will categorically reject a U.S. bid due to the continuing 1945 U.S. occupation.
Unless the Islamic Replublic of the Aryans (IRAN) conquers the United States there will be no IAAF nor IOC games in the USA.
