Assuming the local papers are correct and Vin will be stepping down in the next few years, why on earth would Oregon put a sprints coach in as head coach?
Look, Johnson is an outstanding coach, the results speak for themselves. But so was Martin Smith- and he focused all over the map with regards to the track team. The lack of focus on distance running was a key reason he was forced out.
Putting a sprints coach as head coach at Oregon- even if he promises say 30% of scholorships to distance and mid distance- seems like a recipe for disaster.
Johnson will excel at Oregon but upset the base that wants a perenial, consistant distance corps.
