How many Gold medals in the Olympics have University of Oregon track and field athletes won?
Prefontaine, Nike, Elites train there, weather is fine, great terrain, recognizable school colors, tradition. All are huge selling points.
Well, you're guess is wrong. The majority do not want to go there. I've never seen a school and place so over hyped as University of Oregon and Eugene. It's a shame so many high schoolers actually fall for it though.
It would be better for a distance runner to go to Colorado. Look how their athletes have faired post collegiate.
Sprints? Texas AM or Florida or USC, not Oregon.
Jumps, throws? Not Oregon.
Maybe, a few Mid Distance athletes would enjoy Oregon, but for most T&F Oregoon is not the place to be to be your best.
Ha please! Oregon is as overhyped as Jordan hasay... I'm a 15.50 5km runner and am happily at what would be considered a less salubrious D1 school.
Perfect training weather and locations, Nike and elite projects right next door, tradition of excellence...Oregon is a great place to find yourself. Its far from the only choice, but you can't deny its a good choice.
Yes Oregon is a very good place for athletes who are into tradition, decent weather, good coaching and a supportive community. It may not be the very best place for athletes who want to stay near home, want very hot weather (sprinting), or want to train at altitude. One cannot deny Eugene their due for Olympians and World Champions in Mac Wilkins, Pre, Joaquim Cruz, Wade Bell, Dellinger, Salazar,
and now Centrowitz, Wheating, Mike Berry, English Gardner,
Galen Rupp, Rachel Yurkovich, etc.....

I can think of many who placed silver or bronze.
Oregon has had more than it's share of Olympians, along with medal winners and champions. They don't take a back seat to anyone, so I don't know if the poster is just ignorant or a total fool.
There is more to life than academics.

You guys have to admit 3 straight Ncaa runners up for the Oregon women and like 3 straight National Championships for the Oregon women in the indoor. This is the year that the Oregon women take first and not second for the outdoors NCAA's
They lack nothing in the way of facilities, fan support, coaching, weather for distance training, academic support for the athletes, tradition, you name it.
Why wouldn't you want to run in front of at least 5000 fans at your home meets. (and there are 5 this year). Think about that....piddly little crowds at every other meet around the country, even at conference meets, and at UO they draw 5000 to 15,000 per home meet. Even their little Oregon Preview in March drew 5000 in crappy weather when hardly any varsity guys ran. Why wouldn't you want to run there?
with all their advantages-let me know when they win 3 straight men AND women outdoor titles.
Even Footlocker HS National Championships is thinking to move to Portland for December 2012.
Also the California State Interscholastic Federation Championships are tired of Cerritos, Woodward Park, Hughes Stadium, etc. and wants to move it to Beaverton, Oregon.
You couldn't even walk on at Oregon running a slow 15.50 hell i ran a 15.20 5K in high school and i couldn't walkon at Oregon.
Crappy academics.
You say crappy academics? Compared to where? Harvard? Yale? So is everywhere else compared to those schools. Give me specifics? You can't think of anything else to say so you say crappy academics. So tell me why so crappy compared to most other schools out there.
Former Oregon half-miler Phil Knight could buy your ass a million times over and also 99% of all the Ivy League grads.
"Give me specifics?"
