There is a girl with a running blog who graduated from Villanova and ran on their track team. Her training logs seem to be really low mileage yet she has run a 3:03 marathon (training log:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkHXOXYBzRMjdFY0R1psbFFpMnk4QXFXOEF5X2hKRWc&hl=en_US#gid=0
) It looks like she peaked at 70 miles but only averaged z about 49 mpw over the 17-week training period, not including the two lower mile taper weeks. That seems really low to be able to run such a fast marathon for a girl, but her other PRs are nowhere near as fast. It also looks like she took off 1-2 days per week.
You can't compare post-collegiate training habits too much with what she must have been doing as a college athlete, but my guess is that her current training approach reflects success on a lower volume program while at Villanova
