sammy korir just ran 208.01 in dubai 57 days ago, so much for it takes 6 months to recover from a marathon.
sammy korir just ran 208.01 in dubai 57 days ago, so much for it takes 6 months to recover from a marathon.
the 4th runner is jason mbote
1:45 in and sammy korir is trying to make a break
35km in 1:45+ still the same 4 at the front.
Ghost in Korea
35 km in 1:45:27. still korir, mbote, kigen and kiprop
1:43:32 for 30km with one chinese woman and her 2 male chaperones. its zhang shujing
gohst:
here's a piece of advice. dont make the same mistake many first timers in korea make. it isnt japan, it isnt home... its korea. all you like to do is rip on what the people arent...
kiprop just got dropped...
kiprop just got dropped... around 38 km
40km in 2:00:48 . sammy korir is still leading
Edwin komen looks to be struggling at 41km- now the lead three are single file with korir just throwing down
korir now has 20m... but mbote is coming back.
entering the stadium. korir has maybe 8m on mbote. korir goes again and breaks mbote. edwin komen is 3rd
looks like lee bong ju is going to be the first korean male.
Thanks for the updates. Time?
tv dropped the clock- sorry. kim hee yong, not sure of the name, was the first korean. he isnt very popular with KAF as he only shows up for money races and usuallly blows up in major championships. tv showing bong ju- coughing pretty bad. maybe suffering from a chest cold?
sammy korir 2:07 32
jason mbote 2:07:37
korir just slagged the other kenyans for not helping out. if they had shared the pace, he would have run 2:06...
Korir said it 'was cold' and more hilly than Berlin, where he had run his best time, many years ago.
Three Kenyans under 2:08. Lee Bong Ju was not the first Korean - there was another in front of him. I think Lee has done enough to go to Beijing - but it will be a different story there.
Korir was flying in the last 300m on the track, looked like around 64 pace for 400, and he could have gone faster. He has the stride of a 1500m runner - long and fluid. Lee Bong Ju has the stride of a marathon specialist - short and choppy, and I doubt he could run faster than 28:20 for 10,000 on a good day.
The Korean translator was not very accurate with some of the translations for t.v.
Korea puts out a lot of money for marathons, but the media coverage was not strong, and most Koreans have no interest in this sport. During the race large parts of the course were totally devoid of spectators.
We are waiting for news of how foreign teacher Owain Lewes ran. He is a master and was aiming for around 2:35. He trains in total isolation down near Jeju Island, where he is teaching vocational school.
Ghost in Korea
Ghost:
read the above posts. of course if you follow the 2 english papers in korea, you would see nothing related to the marathon. koreans in general, aren't interested in sports, however they are huge fans of korea. yes, the translator was off, but that is because the translator has little technical knowledge of the sport. throw in the fact that sammy korir speaks passable english, and you will have problems. go crawl back under your rock in pyeongtaek or where ever you came from. hard for me to say, but mayeroff is spot on with his remarks about you...
Anyone got full results up to 2:20
