How many americans can run 13:15? And are you saying that nobody faster then Spivey can give good advice? It's pathetic. I am certain there are people out there that couldn't break 18:00 that could coach better then Spivey. That isn't a slam on Spivey either. How fast you run has nothing to do your ability to give sound advice. And you can't even explain your position. So please, just let Spivey post... at lest he is devoid of verbal diarrhea.
You do make a great point here about not necessarily being fast but can still give advice! I agree because maybe that person is running their potential with their body! A good example is I know I have read and heard around here that wetmore sucked in college at running. But yet he still coaches several all americans a year and has had several national champions. I dont beleive John MacDonald(sp?) ran as a pro. Joe Vigil? Vin Lanana?
Another thing is that I have personally been coached by two different guys that were pretty damn good in the 70's and 80's who were definitely recognized at races. And to be honest both of them could not coach for a damn! One was better than the other but I still didnt improve that much and they both beleived they had the right answers because maybe it had worked for them. Now I am not saying that every Joe Smoe out there that runs an 18 min 5k could coach anyone to an all american or national title. But some people have read the books and been students of the sport for most of their life, but just couldnt get their body to go any faster.
