not those of us who knew him you moron. the point of mentioning the facts that he was national champ and that the "only" ran a 2:14 were to illustrate how stupid you have to be to really think he was doping. There is no way he took anything during college, and all of the blowhards from the 70s would tell you everyone and his sister could/should run a 2:14. you wouldn't suspect drugs when other healthy young guys die suddenly (as in the story above), so you're an asshole to do so in this case.

If Ryan Shay was on HGH he would have run faster then 2:14. He had way more talent and leg speed then someone like Mark Conover who ran 2:12.

2:14 comes from hard work, 2:04 may come from drugs.

But in all seriousness, you have to be an idiot to think that 27 year-old guys dropping dead at the height of their athletic prowess can only mean drug use. Aside from the WELL KNOWN fact that Ryan had an enlarged heart that can go at any time, people at any age aren't suscept to not just keeling over. It is sad and really scary to think about, but a heart can become blocked and just stop.

As I said earlier, Ryan had a prediagnosed condition. A good way to describe this to the piddling masses on letsrun is as a garage door opener spring. This oversized spring has a capacity to pull that door up with ease for "x" amount of times, but once the pulls exceed that number (x), it breaks and it's replacement time, you can't fix it. So for Ryan, he exceeded "x" and there was no fixing it.

The story isn't over until all investigations are complete, and then it could still leave the public in doubt. As with Lance Armstrong, universally regarded as a prime doping suspect. People are free to discus Shay until they are blue in the face. There are no sacred cows in the public arena. We have the right and the duty to uncover any scandal for the good of children and adults exposed to illegal doping from organizations like NYRRC which promotes doping anti-heros. As was just said to WADA, you can take HGH and it clears your system very quickly, Marion Jones was never caught after hundreds of tests, she was caught by the checks she wrote to Balco.
