I'm as great a supporter of Ritz as there is and I almost always would defer to an athlete's own sense of what's best for him (not that I have any say in the matter), but I find Ritz's choice of races in Europe to be a bit odd. Assuming he runs this Saturday in Belgium and then the following Saturday in Heusden, in a seventeen day period, he will have run three 5000 meters races and one 3000. Moreover, I could surely understand running the 3000 first as preparation for a fast 5000, but I don't quite understand coming over to Lausanne to run a 5000, a place where people do not run fast 5000s, and then the 3000 in Norwich. But having run those two, in seems sensible to me to then workout and rest for two weeks in order to run in Heusden, where people have run very fast (Dan Browne ran 13:16 there), but he adds another 5000 this weekend. Perhaps the idea for this latter race is to be able to run from the front, thinking with proper pacing, this might give him a fast time, instead of having to run from arrears in a very fast paced race. (However, maybe a 1500 [I think he should be able to run at least 3:40, given his two mile time]would better prepare him for Heusden.) Can someone explain the logic of all of this to me?
