It is official, men's xc is dead after this year.
Both the sprints coach and the throws coach are gone. The newest coach may be kept on as a GA. The new BIC is off having a kid so these spots aren't going to be filled for awhile. This is a prime example of an administration wasting (getting rid of) a very valuable resource for the new coach who could be out on leave when the start of practice rolls around. Those around the program know that it was the long time UCF assistant doing almost all of the head coach's administrative duties the past couple of years.
Don't believe everything others say about the men's CC program...
Who is going to coach the xc programs this Fall then?
was it ever alive?
Is this really true, the men's XC team being cut...cause if it is, this is big news.
Another DI XC program cut just as it is on the rise.
BIC?
You mean the head coach is on leave?
When was UCF's program on the rise?

Two years ago, we had one guy break 16 minutes for 5k (track), just this past season, we had 5 at 15:15 or better. Two of those guys also ran 31:46 and 31:49 at 2007 SeaRay Invite (look up the results yourself). With good freshman recruits coming in...I'd say it is (was) on the rise.
The official word is that this upcoming season with be the last for the men's program. I hear they are still planning on investing resources on an assistant coach who specializes in xc for the Girls program (and who would work with the men for one season).

Will the new head coach put any money in the women's distance program or will it all be directed to the sprints and field events?
I have not a clue but would assume if they are willing to spring for a decent coach it only follows that they would invest in the athletes (probably do allready).
please don t tell me SHE will hire the recent coached just fired from Alabama...What a shitty hire.....trust me//.....It aint gonna happen , with him in the staff.
Would anyone have any insights why the two assistant coaches were not retained? Were they good people? Good coaches? Would seem that the new head coach could use some experienced folks to assist, especially if she is going to be out having a baby. Is this really accurate. She got the job and won't be around for the start of the year? I find this somewhat hard to believe.
any thoughts on why??? wrote:

I was just thinking the same thing. Can anyone verify this??? They hired a new coach, she immediately fired the entire coaching staff, then went on maternity leave????? And xc season is about a month away. That cannot be true, can it???
The only coach still showing up on the staff directory is the one hired this past spring. There are mixed rumors about whether the new coach made the decision to fire the staff or whether it was mandated from the top. Rumors from the Tennessee side of things are that she is due sometime between now and the end of August. The reasons for the staff being fired immediately haven't come out. While the sprints coach had not done anything remarkable, it appears as though the other assistant had built a strong group of throwers. Is there anyone close to the situation that knows anything about the assistants?
It seems odd to me that she would be out applying for and seeking a new job when she is pregnant and going on maternity leave soon. It also seems odd that a school would consider her, much less hire her at this point. They must have really felt she was the long term person they wanted. It would appear to send a bad message to the xc programs though, unless the coach they retained is a distance coach.
It isn't odd when you consider:
a. she is a woman
b. she is black
c. she is coming from a school with a big name
They are 3 reasons off the top which have nothing to do with her actual ability to coach which helped her get this job. She may be a very good coach, but Central Florida doesn't know that. They saw a black woman who coached at Tennessee, and that was enough for them.
My problem is how you can accept a job when the first months are spent on maternity leave. This takes a lot of balls - very unprofessional. Certainly not fair to the kids on the team (if its true).

I agree. Like I said, how can you even go out looking for a new coaching position when you are pregnant and know you will not be able to do the job for a while? Strange.
I ran with a couple of the UCF guys this summer and they basically just said the entire situation is a mess and wouldn't be to surprised if after this year, it was dead.
