Sure it is. It was cold, wet and windy. The chill goes right to the bone and you never get loose.

Had it been 55 degrees, dry and no wind, you'd see perhaps 10 degrees faster at max. My opinion is that 60 is about the optimal temperature for 5ks. Regardless, 2200 feet isn't optimal for fast times no matter what the conditions.

Maybe 15 seconds faster.

Gee...those Kenyans who are used to that cold weather seemed to run 10 seconds and more, faster. There is no reason that our guys shouldn't have been within 2 seconds of the winner, at that time. not a good result.

"feeling the effects" ?!! He can't recover from a 1500m from EIGHT days ago?? Jesus, how fragile is he? After this 5000, it oughta take him, what a month to recover?

He had a bad race. Leave your weather and recent 1500m excuses behind.

And this to Malmo: does anyone ever just have a bad race, or is there always an excuse for it? Seems like every single time someone has a little bit off an off race you talk about the weather, jet leg, time of the year, time of the day, time of the month, whatever. An 8:07 2-miler/13:04 5k guy goes 13:27 when he is fit, ready, and coming off a 1500 pr.....then HE HAD A BAD DAY...... PERIOD.

Can you please provide some evidence of this "global warming boogyman"? I've seen more then plenty evidence that it is happening but not any evidence that shows it isn't happening.

statistics aside, I was actually at the race, and I would say that Ritz had a good day. He moved up throughout the race, and still wasnt that far from his pr in crappy conditions. Teg had a bad day, you could tell on his body that he was struggling. The first 4 Africans looked effortless the whole race, didnt really look like they tried that hard

As much as I'd like to I find it very difficult to be a Tegencamp fan. He just doesn't seem to have much confidence in himself. He hardly ever sticks his nose in the race in international competition. Even at US Nationals when he was racings a tired Lagat he hung back, let the pace lag (and Lagat rest) and didn't make a move till to late to take the sting out of Lagat's kick.

At Prefontain I think he probably had the stuff to win it (the 2 mile) but he hung back and then tried to close the gap too late. If he had just gome with Buster from the beginning he had a shot at it, but no he hangs back, lets a gap develop and then runs in no man's land by himself.

Today he decided to hang back and let a gap open and run in no mans land even when the pace lagged.

I'm really struggling to be a Teg fan.

Altitude was a factor in this race, and it worked to Ritz's benefit.

It's starting to slowly be realized that this wasn't a bad race at all for Teg.

What's going on with Chebii? Isn't this the guy who closed in 51.0 to win Prefontaine one year in 13:08?
