Ok, so I just took a mid-term for my American Politics class(at a top 10 college), and was confronted with the following short answer question:
"Leaders in the House and Senate have many resources available to them in order to maintain party discipline. List and briefly describe them."
So the textbook had some nice organized answer to this, but I never did the reading, so I had to wing my response. Apparently saying congressional leaders use blackmail and bribes to maintain discipline was incorrect and inappropriate. I failed this question as a result, even though I correctly recalled two other methods.
My question to you Letrun is this: Was I ridiculous in putting blackmail and bribery as a response? There's no way that doesn't go on all the time in congress. What should I do? Confront the professor...are they any verified moments in history where congressional leaders blatantly blackmailed other congress members for votes?
I still think I was logical and justified in this response.
