Over the last couple of years I have been doing some experimenting with training. I did about four months of steady distance running (7-9 miles a day). I then ran a 2 mile race. I ran 9:13 a pr by several seconds. I then did intervals 400-800's for six weeks and lowered my time to 9:03. Just a 10 second improvement. In that two year time I ran for several months mostly steady running again. Did just three interval sessions and ran a 29:46 10k on the track. Started running intervals and could not run any faster. I am beginning to wonder. Are intervals overrated? Since running races over 2 miles is mostly an areobic event do we really need to run intervals?
