I think this record is freaking unreal but all these high schoolers going in pro races is kinda wild imo. Sorta defeats the purpose of HS running but congratulations to him. Guess this is a new era of running. We all kinda expect this to happen when every single race you run in is versus pros as a high schooler.

Agreed. He really didn't get any help from being out the back in a pro race. Bet he could have run even faster in a college race somewhere. Very impressive stuff.

Yeah, I was concerned there for quite a bit thinking “maybe he’s just not feeling it tonight”.
Then, long after the race was over, found out he SHATTERED the record. He must have REALLY come on strong the final mile and a 1/2.

Rupp raced pros in Belgium to run his 5k record. Young drove to this meet from his house. Why are we complaining about this now? It's been a thing for multiple decades
