I don’t think he’s overhyped, and I trust he and Ed Eyestone know what they’re doing. I predict he will get the “American debut record,” and 2:06-low wouldn’t surprise me. I’ll predict 2:06:55 if the weather is good.

Japan, with 1/3 the population, had 30 guys last year run 2:08 or faster, the US had 1. Everybody goes out at sub 64 in Japan, we need an attitude change in the marathon.

Weather looking great and he has a pacer to take him through half in 63:00 not needing to go out insane with the lead pack that will go 61:50 at 21km.

Mantz rarely misjudged his fitness so I do believe he'll run a great debut. I'm not going to make a prediction because the marathon is a cruel mistress, but Eyestone most likely has Connor ready to pop a big one.

I love that he’s going for it. And that he has the confidence to state his goals before the race. But the marathon is very different from NCAA cross. Maybe 2:08:40… no way he manages a 2:06

I am not a Mantz fanboy, but my God this is refreshing. Just go for it. 50/50 that he blows up but his blow up will still be a #1 US time as long as he runs under 2:12.

Just the fact that he is talking about going out in 63 is awesome. We have been waiting a long time for someone not named Rupp to be running at this level. I hope he kills it.

Probably.😁 But he is a 2740 guy. With super shoes, he should be running 206/ 2:08s so 63 isn't that far off.
