Emily Sisson was joined by American legends Deena Kastor and Joan Benoit Samuelson after she entered the record books and revealed that she had no idea she was going so fast.

Mantz has a big week ahead. He has his marathon debut today and he gets married on Saturday.

Kipruto got his second major win as Conner Mantz recorded the fastest debut by an American-born athlete ever (2:08:16).

Emily Sisson was absolutely brilliant, going out on AR pace (68:26) and then she picked it up and ran her fastest at the very end of the race.

Our recaps are coming but some appreciation for Chepngetich:
Her winning time of 2:14:18 – the second-best in history, just 14 seconds shy of Brigid Kosgei’s world record set on the same course in 2019 – was fast, but not unprecedented. But no woman has ever attacked a marathon in the manner in which Chepngetich did on a brisk, sunny day in Chicago.
In good conditions for running (temps in the 40s, 10 mph wind), Chepngetich ran her first mile in 4:50, her first 5k in 15:11, and her first 10k in 30:40. At that point, she was 1:55 ahead of the closest woman and a 20-second cushion on every American man in the field save Conner Mantz and Frank Lara. So crazy were Chepngetich’s splits that she spent most of the first 10k running with Pat Tiernan – the former Australian record holder at 10,000 meters (27:22 pb) making his marathon debut. She did not run a mile slower than 5:00 until mile 7, and even then it was a 5:02.

Keira D'Amato's American record of 2:19:12 lasts less than a year!. Sisson becomes the 1st American under 2:19 and now is the 22nd of all-time in the marathon.

She held up ok the final 2k but by 40k the record was really gone.
What a run to be the 2nd fastest of all-time!
Emily Sisson still on pace for American record and sub 2:19!

16:37 for the 8th 5k.
So slowest in the race. They are acting like she's going to get the world record but I don't think it will happen. If she ran 16:37 for the final 5k it's 2:14:20 for her. So she'll probably slow and run over 2:14:30.

Chepnegetich slowing big time, may not get the record. She has to close in 7:12 for the last 2.2k

Comes up short of Leonard Korir's American debut record of 2:07:56.

It's going to be super close for the WR but she has to regain her form to get it.
She hit 40k in 2:07:02, 40k WR pace is 2:07:05 but she's not going to get is as she's slowing down. Have we heard any of this analysis?

Ruth Chepngetich has slowed slightly. She ran 16:24 for her 7th 5k. If she keeps up that pace it will take her 23:34 to get to the finish and she should finish in 2:13:59 if our math is right. 2:14:04 is the world record by Brigid Kosgei
The World record may be be slipping away even though her official projected finish time is 2:13:06

A big surge like he did in Boston last year has Kipruto looking good!

We spoke to soon, Bernard Koech has been dropped. It's now 3, Benson Kipruto (Boston Champ 2021), Seifu Tura (defending champ), and John Korir.

For reference when Chepngetich blew up last year she ran 16:39 from 15k to 20k, then 17:21, 17:52. She's still sub 16 for every 5k. This is amazing running.
