Why does it seem like B.B. should be 43 or 53, not 33? I used to compete against Stillwater while in junior high school and high school. I knew he competed for Stillwater after I graduated hs but it always felt like the age gap wasn't significant. Good luck to B.B!
does anyone know how old he actually is? I remember seeing a thread on here a few years ago where this was speculated
He's old as sh%t but still 5 years younger than Connor Mantz.
lots of slower guys on paper have done well in the marathon. you could basically randomnly pick one of the many Japanese sub 208 marathoners and they would have 10k pbs around 28 minutes. there are a lot of other factors in play there (like training for many years for the marathon distance), but give the guy a chance.
Well, I was more interested in the background of someone that flippantly makes disparaging comments. However, since you were so hospitable, I’ll play along:
Early 40’s. Phoenix/Tempe. Also a former semi professional runner a million years ago (small contract/shoes/gear), but now work as a physicians assistant in an ICU. Still a runner, but just to maintain fitness: 7:30 pace is the new 6:00. 100mpw is now 35 on a good week. PR: 3:36 (1500)
The only American born between ‘77 & ‘82 with a 3:36 1500 PR is Steve Sherer, and I don’t think he’s a physician’s assistant in Arizona.
Not saying this guy’s claims are impossible, but I am casting doubt on them.
3:36 1500 was likely converted from a 3:54 gym class mile (nobody filled him in that the mile is 4 laps not 3).
My demographics have no bearing on the conversation.
Two years ago, Ben ran 28:08 10,000m. That's an 1120 on WA scoring tables. 1120 ~ 2:12-2:13 marathon. What is the likelihood that a 1500m runner several years past his prime runs an equivalent marathon? These comments aren't critical, they are realistic. My comment about his contract speaks to his lack of top level results recently, the end of his club OTC, and the fresh crop of young blood set to supplant him.
Sorry Ben.
I would disagree. It has everything to do with the conversation. Knowing the background of the voice of a comment is significant. I’d like to get an idea of what kind of person makes comments like yours. So, how old are you? Where do you live? Are you currently a runner? What are your pr’s?
excellent, why don't you start by posting your background/qualifications so we can get this party started
monday: 6x 10:00 pray, 3 minute rest between each pray.
tuesday: 1:30:00 pray. casual conversations allowed during the pray.
wednesday: 1:30:00 pray in a quiet place in the trails. no conversations allowed. should be focused but not too hard
thursday: 1:30:00 pray, like tuesday
friday: fartlek pray, 3 minutes of hard praying, 2 minutes of light praying. do this for 1 hour
saturday: 3:00:00 light pray.
sunday: go to church and do whatever your father tells you to do
This is the problem with Lydiard style liturgy. “Long slow prayers make long slow runners”.
You think the East Africans are afraid of this kind of prayer? Kenyans NEVER run on the LORDs day and Ethiopians do their strength work building churches out of solid hunks of stone
you have to go Igloi style when it comes to prayer. Igloi’s boys were ready for anything because they never knew what he might throw at them. One set might be five Hail Marys then the next might be three sets of intense fasting in the desert. I head once after 20 x Apostles Creed, BAM Igloi just straight up had them recite the Koran

Has he run a half yet? Always thought he had a lot of potential in the 5k so this will be interesting. I feel like he could pop off a solid marathon, I know Linkletter improved under Hall too.
My guess is he runs a 2:16 (maybeee 2:14ish) for a full and retires after a couple attempts. If he were still elite, he'd move up to the 5k or 10k on the track but he can't make those teams.
Awesome to see, two great guys teaming up. Wish this would have happened a few years ago, but it's not too late. Hope to see him in a half or name his first marathon soon. Go get em Ben!

Wow you're going to be really confused the first time you hear someone criticize Tom Brady, huh?
4 upvotes and 28 downvotes later I think it's safe to say your opinion sucks.

I went to college with him and our team raced against his in HS. He graduated in 2007, so he would be 33 now.
Thread jack here, as long as we're talking about xc back then. Is the Tyler King that was shot recently in Minneapolis the same Tyler King that ran for Lakeville and Princeton? He was on the dyestat board a ton way back in the day.

Those Japanese guys though are 3:45 guys who are getting better as the distance increases not 3:35 guys getting worse as the distance increases...
