I treated this like a pay-per-view and cancelled immediately after signing up. In theory, as fans of the sport we're now supposed to sign up for Flotrack, letsrun, NBC gold, USATF, it's by no means just $10/month total.

Bruce off the back, Noooooooooo

We are part of the sport? In what way? The same way that the local baller at the Y is a part of the NBA? I guess. Yes, it does add up. Flotrack + LRC + USATF + NBC Gold, etc. I get it. I also am willing to pay because the sport is that important to me. If some are not willing to pay, that’s okay.
It’s just annoying to hear people act like the paywalls are the problem. They are NOT. Fans who do not think trust watching is worth paying for are the problem. What would a free stream accomplish? We might gain some new “fans” who never open their wallets?
The biggest problem these days is to get eyeballs watching YOUR content. Whatever it is, Sports, Running, Movies, Opera, Classic concerts, Rock concerts... you name it.
A paywall will not achieve this.
I am sure we will never see the numbers but The Marathon project people will be disappointed how many will actually pay to watch this.
Even for hardcore runners it is not that exciting. Sure I would watch a couple of minutes while it's going. But I would not watch 2.5 hours nonstop.
The $12 make it very easy for me to not watch anything at all.
Steph Bruce falling off LOTS. Bathroom break?
S Bruce crapped out of the chase pack paced by her own husband. Gonna be an awkward ride home today for them.
KDA has two kids. Ages 4 and 6, perhaps? Can't recall exactly, but both young.
Is Steph Bruce just going through a rough patch, or has she already cracked? Seems a bit early for the wheels to fall off?
I think I saw pacer Nick Willis run off to the side and pee in a bush

I love Ian Butler out there, jankiest running form ever!
Holy hell, every step he comes down it looks like he's rolling his ankle. It's hard to watch, LOL
And Bates allowing a little gap now. I don't want to see Damato totally solo here. 1 pacer still there.
Could he bring her all the way in?

Droddy even throws his cups off to the side with a little flair. It’s hard not to like that guy. Ian Butler hanging tough up front with his 15:02 5000m PR (he has gone 2:16:xx)
Checked his TFRRS and he has gone 14:46. Still cool. Anyways, lead pack down to 14.
Anyone know Ian Butler's story? Tilastopaja has a half marathon pb for him of 65:22...he's about to break that in the first half of this marathon. Western State grad, that's about all I know of him.
Great job by Ben Rosario for putting together a marathon with great coverage.
Only marathon that I have seen with better coverage was INEOS159. I think one reason why the coverage is so great is because they don’t have the stupid wheelchair athletes. Major marathons will miss key parts in the race to interview wheelchair people after they won. Take note world marathon majors, we don’t want to see wheelchairs.
Paywalls are not the problem, nor are they the solution. They are an effect of the problem. The sports problems cause most people to not be interested and coverage gets relegated to the corners of the internet. I'm a 30 year fan of track and field, rarely miss a televised meet, but I'm not wasting my money on this morning's event while I get ready for an afternoon of NFL football. Seriously, paying to watch this marathon is the equivalent of pony'ing up to watch a live NBA G-league exhibition game on a Sunday morning. Maybe thats a bad comparison, the G-league exhibition game would feature more elite athletes and be wildly more entertaining than this marathon.
If the marathon were free today, I'm not sure how makes the sport any better. You'd just be broadcasting a sport/product that the general population has widely rejected. It would be like a network tv should would continually broadcast some sitcom that is crap and NOBODY watches, with the belief as long as its being broadcasted, people will be drawn to it. NO. Repackage the product and come to the table with something better.
Yeah, kinda awkward to have Ben Bruce bring Damato in solo.
16 guys at sub 2:10 at 15k. So that is the upper limit on sub 2:10s. Some of these guys I've never hard of. So unlikely we'll get 10 sub 2:10s.
I predicted 4 right before the race but beforehand was thinking we'd want 10.
I'll take 8 now. If 2:09 is the old 2:12-2:13. We should be able to get 8 with these conditions and pacing, etc.

32 in Arizona with no humidity and perfect sun is very different from 32 in Chicago.
The stat line shows 75% humidity. Rojo goes home divastated.
,Dark sky is showing a dew point of 26. That’s perfect if true. Is it possible to have a dew point below 32? Regardless, Humidity doesn’t matter if it’s that cold.
Someone said that I’d love the weather. It’s pretty darn good. Tiny bit cold at the start but you kind of have to have that in Arizona this time of year. They start a little slow which is much better than too fast. Likely feeling good now.
Warning, I am a bit tired and cranky as I was up to 2-3am several days this week shipping out tshirts. Called john up this morning and quipped, “You need me to help you cover the equivalent of this men’s AAA baseball game right? See which guy is most likely to finish 30th in Valencia or Tokyo?”
Pumped to see American record attempt for women. Although I don’t know if I should root for it or not. I mean Sara’s story is SO SO incredible. Like it doesnt’ almost make any logical sense. It’s just amazing and inspiring. But how do you explain it? If it wasn’t a known quantity like Sara Hall, you’d say drugs which I’d be my life se’s not on without hesitating. Even if we say she simply was in the wrong event all these years , how do you explain that in her first 7 marathons up through the end of 2017, she never broke 2:27.
Now sh’es running 20 seconds per mile faster than that?
Is she simply a super responder to the shoes? But does that explain 20 seconds a mile? 8 minutes is 5% of 2:27
.
Ian Butler has some tibial torsion going on. Don’t know anything about him, but rooting him on as I have the same issue.

I hope so. She has looked great so far this morning.
I like that forward lean.
It's not exactly mainstream popular entertainment, but I just looked at Gwen Jorgensen's YouTube channel and she gets at a quick glance between 10-70k views on her videos.
