70k new cases per day and a doubling of daily deaths in the past weeks is now nothing to worry about? What happens when schools open and millions are in classrooms much of the day?

It will probably get worse. And you will hear all about it if Trump is re-elected. If Biden is re-elected, it will “go away” in the sense that the media will talk about it at least 50% less.
I’m in Texas. It’s supposedly horrible here. I live in a suburb of Dallas with 215,000 people. Parks are open, kids are at splash pads every day. Daycares are open, many pools are open, gyms are half open, restaurants have indoor dining spaced out. We have a total of 550 cases since March and 3 deaths. THREE.
So , because your community has been lucky enough to avoid the spread (so far) you will just go about things like it will never happen? Jesus, ignorance is the real virus. You will have your share of infections soon enough. I live in Miami, the current epicenter. My city had exactly 3 confirmed cases of it as of end of March. We were “in the clear.” Then DeSantis ignored the CDC, took the advice of the WH, and pushed for massive openings. 3 months later, my city has just shy of 1000 confirmed cases, with 17 deaths. I personally know 4 people who have had it, and people I know all together know dozens who have contracted it.
Stunning the ignorance in our country.
To clarify, Miami Dade County consists of over 100 cities. I live in one of those cities.
Keep watching CNN and believing every lie they spew
We're all gonna die!!!!!!!!
I live in a city in the USA of about 250,000 people. The county population is about one million people. I "know" around 100 people. I still don't know anybody who has tested positive for Covid, or anyone who knows someone that has tested positive for Covid. I am not Covid "denier" or anything. That's just my reality.
I live in orange county so a pretty major population hub. I've known several people who tested positive. Most tested positive after someone at their work got sick and everyone at the workplace was tested. None of them had any more than a sore throat. Most were asymptomatic. As for initial person who tested positive in every case they ranged from flu like symptoms to sore throat. No one I know has been hospitalized and no one I'm friends with knows anyone who has either. I'm really curious who the people are in orange county and LA who are in the hospitals, because I've been out and about for work from the start and haven't seen anything that indicates health crisis. Honestly all the blue collar workers I talk to say the same. They've all had to work from the start as essential workers so they've had the highest exposure and were not seeing it. This really seems like problem for those already at the end only.
Zxc. That's easy. Millions will die of course. The Pubs don't care about old people. Unbelievable what we are witnessing in 2020! I had hoped that we were better than this! Obviously not...

Even by the official numbers published by the Be Afraid of Covid establishment daily deaths are down, not doubling in the past few weeks.

Reality is a truth pill hard for some like you to swallow. You want to see fear porn, take a look at Fox News coverage of the Ebola Virus. But I’m sure those, like yourself, downplaying / ignoring this were equally as frustrated with right wing media’s coverage back then, right?
Riddle me this. If this is not the big deal many on the right say it is, why aren’t any of them doing the things they are telling us to do? You think Barron is heading back to school in 4 weeks? Why are all the journalists at Fox News still reporting either in isolation in studio or from the comfort of their homes? The Five look awfully odd pushing for us to ignore CDC guidelines while practicing them on their show......

I guess you don't know how to read a graph?
According to Worldometer, 7-day average for daily deaths the last two weeks are indeed going up:
United States:
July 4: 519
July 18: 787
Worldwide:
July 4: 4568
July 18: 5093

Ditto here.
Five months in, living in a state that was a hotspot and nobody I know directly knows anyone who got sick from Covid.
All these letsrunners claiming they know several people are not to be believed

True. Not all are watching Fox News. Some may have joined the President by focusing OAN, now that Fox is a bit more balanced.

And were you wrong when you said, "Even by the official numbers published by the [Worldometer], daily deaths are down, not doubling in the past few weeks"?

July 4-6: Deaths were 266, 263 and 378 per day.
July 7-18: Deaths from 800-1000 on nine different days.
That's close to a factor of 4, minimum more than doubling.
As for cases, they reached 30k per day for the first time since May 1 on June 19. Since then we've reached over twice as many, 60k per day on nine or ten occasions, with multiple over 70k.
I know at least seven people who've had it. One has had it lingering for months and has been struggling to breathe all this time.

That doesn't represent a doubling of deaths.
Because of the way deaths are reported, you need to use the 7 day moving average to get a better idea of what is happening.
Average daily deaths are indeed going up and it looks like it will eventually double from the July 5th low point of 516 per day. But it's not doubling all that fast.
My guess is that we will start averaging 1000 deaths per day in about 6 to 8 weeks. But that's just a guess.

I know six.
One is my brother who had a pretty mild case. It's now been two weeks since he had symptoms of an active infection but he still has some lingering breathing problems and a lot of fatigue.
It's a nasty bug. My advice is to stay home.

It's a bit surprising you know no one though also makes sense in a way. The virus often spreads in clusters in a way that people are likely to either know none or very few people that have it, or a lot of people that have it. For example my friends in NYC all know multiple people that have had it - but my friends in rural areas know very few since the virus was first concentrated on those more urban areas.
Another way to look at it - if your friend gets it their whole family can easily get it, so you suddenly know 4 people that have it after knowing 0 right before then.
Personally I know 3 people that have tested positive and a larger number that had symptoms but weren't tested at the time.
