Shafiqua Maloney: PB 1:57.59 (Outdoor) 1:58.69 (Indoor) Finished 4th at the Olympics and currently has the fastest time in the world in 2025 (1:59.87), but Addy Wiley is 2-0 against her - beating her at Ed Murphey in 2023 and at the Zurich Diamond League last September.
Nia Akins: PB (2:01.03 (Indoor/Outdoor) Won the Olympic Trials but Wiley is 3-1 against her, the only loss being in the semis of the Trials. She has beaten her convincingly twice since, 1:58.16/1:59.85 in Zurich and 1:58.93/2:01.32 at Athlos.
Natoya Goule-Toppin: PB 1:55.96 (Outdoor) 1:58.46 (Indoor) Has beaten Wiley by small margins both times they raced, by 0.11 at Gala dei Castelli in 2023 and by 0.3 at Athlos.
Sammy Watson: PB 1:59.96 (Outdoor) 2:00.94 (Indoor) Wiley is 3-1 against Watson, the only loss being the Trials semi. They raced Ed Murphey three weeks later and Wiley won in 1:58.67 to Watson's 3rd in 1:59.98.
Kaela Edwards: PB 1:59.68 (Outdoor) 2:00.52 (Indoor) Has beaten Wiley once in three races, the Trials semi. Wiley pounded her three weeks later at Ed Murphey 1:58.67 to 2:02.29.
Sage Hurta-Klecker PB 1:57.53 (Outdoor) 2:02.54 (Indoor) Wiley and Hurta have never raced at 800m; their only race was the 1500m at the 2023 USATF Indoors where Hurta was 2nd and Wiley 4th as a freshman.
Olivia Baker: PB 1:58.05 (Outdoor) 2:00.33 (Indoor) Wiley is 4-0 against Baker and defeated her three times in 2024.
McKenna Keegan: PB 1:59.82 (Outdoor) 2:01.67 (Indoor) The only time Wiley raced Keegan was USATF Indoors last year and Wiley won.
Wiley PB: 1:56.83 (Outdoor) 2:00.70 (Indoor) She finished 2023 with a PB of 1:57.64 and opened the 2024 indoor season in 2:00.84. Last year, she lowered her PB to1:56.83 and lowered her 5K a full 25 seconds from fall 2023 to fall 2024. Altitude training did her good. I think sub-2:00 in a rut-buster first race is possible.
I think it will be a hot pace and a fast race for all. The pace is set for 57.5 at 400m. 10 runners (including the pacer) is a BIG field for an indoor 800m. I hope everyone stays on their feet.
that was absolutely incredible to watch. could not believe hocker took the lead... he looked so chill the whole race, i really thought he had it. but, damn, Grant Fisher BATTLING on that last lap. two fastest ever. insane. so awesome.
Agreed, I stood up and cheered. Nice to see on a quiet Saturday afternoon. Big ups to Hocker for the early move. You can question it but likely why you get a WR. Grant should cut him a check. Nike is smiling today. Both are not Swoosh TC but rep the brand well
that move Hocker made with 3 laps to go was so fearless and shows why he's a gold medalist. most runners would have let Grant carry them to the final lap. but he went for it. much respect.
