Gutted. Was a huge fan but if this is true she should be banned for life and required to pay back all prize money. And that Bardelli(sp?) guy should be declared persona non grata in Kenya. Don't care but thos tarnishes every athlete he coaches.

I've been laughing at conspiracy theorists on here because essential nobody Matthew Kisorio was all they had going on but this is a big catch. And if she's done it alone she's sullied honest, hardworking athletes.

Don't know what to think but don't have appetite for the NYC marathon anymore so I won't be watching. Shame.

Testing as a system is ineffective. Too few tests, poor analysis, not enough blood tests, not enough OOC tests (yes she got caught ooc), and issues with timing of testing with athlete's training blocks. A single test is ineffective because of certain drugs' glow time, or the threshold limits of certain drugs, or the fact that there are drugs that may be undetectable in their current form, or masking agents which whisk things away quicker, or that certain labs are not calibrated to the same level of sensitivity as others. All reasons why the system and practices are not bullet-proof. That is why I believe there is something more pervasive than 19 cases alone.

To have failed a test is to have failed an IQ test of timing, avoiding or hiding. I believe it was Dwight Chambers who wrote something like "Why did I open the door for a stranger during my glow time?" Not hiding to take one of your 3 allowed missed tests is failing the IQ test.

further, I firmly believe that the top athletes have the support structure to help facilitate a "high IQ".

Am I surprised she tested positive? Yes. Am I surprised that she is doping? No

And just to clarify, this is not the thread pick apart an idea that I think a top athletes' support structure is concealing doping. While I believe it can be used that way because of my familiarity with the sport and its organization, I have no direct evidence that anybody is.

Rojo, I don't think there is anything wrong with reporting an "adverse finding for an unknown substance." Silence just gives either party a chance to keep it quiet or cover it up, and puts pressure on both to reveal more facts soon

I agree, but as a practical matter, the B should just confirm the A, which it does 99% of the time. If her A is positive, she is positive.

Assuming the B comes back positive I think she will be the highest ranked EA to be busted.

Curious about what could be a major technicality: it appears the test was administered after she ran her most recent WMM. If the "A" sample is confirmed does that impact her eligibility for the WMM title, as she appears to have "earned" the prize before she tested positive? Not sure what the WMM rules are, i.e., do you have to be clean until the final race of the series to be eligible, even if you don't run the race?

Ban ALL African athletes. End of discussion.

IAAF/WMM had to do something because of the awards dinner. A leak gives them a reason to postpone the award announcements.

If they had just postponed speculation would be rampant.

I agree systematic doping versus the 'tainted supplement' 'in competition it's a ban but outside race day it's allowed' or the "bong bans" type findings should be looked at differently.

The world's top female marathon runner, Kenya's Rita Jeptoo, has tested positive for the blood-boosting drug EPO, an official told AFP Friday.

The revelation, which casts a shadow over Kenya's status as a distance-running powerhouse, came after World Marathon Majors organisers said they were postponing the awarding of this year's prize to 33-year-old Jeptoo following a report she had tested positive in an out of competition urine test.

Athletics Kenya's vice president, Jackson Tuwei, said the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) had revealed a positive 'A' sample test for the blood-boosting drug Erythropoietin (EPO).

"After we received the letter from the IAAF, we summoned Rita Jeptoo for a meeting in Nairobi. She denied having taken any drugs," he told AFP.

"We cannot condemn her. She has a right to contest it" and request that the 'B' sample also be tested, he added

b/c there is no evidence that elite long distance men are doping in material amounts.

women, sprinters, throwers, sure - there is some evidence there that the sport is widely fraudulent. But I'm holding on to male LD running by my fingernails.

but better- tell me why 'tous dope' when you haven't a scrap of evidence for it among elite LD men. Please. Go.

and as part two, explain why sprinters are caught, throwers are caught, women are caught, but elite men are not.
