Didnt Apollo Ono run a 3:30 during Ironman.
That was great . Thx !
Loved reading this and really appreciated his perspective! I hope he hits his goal!
Sometimes divorce is the only thing serious and sad enough to wake up very successful people. Best of luck to Bob Kennedy.
Sounds like Bob has a mild case of Gallowitis.
It seems like talent actually does go away.
Kennedy family are liberal as a 3 dollar bill.

Alan Webb won a Nobel prize for disproving the theory that talent doesn't go away.

I think you mean proving and does.
The article makes it sound like Bob just went through a divorce. I thought he was still married to Melina? She is super successful and I believe is a big help in his running stores...I don't think they are divorced.
NY Times doesn't make mistakes. Maybe she didn't like the 200 pound version of Bob.
Running store? I thought he had a restaurant. Isn't Bob's Burgers based loosely on Bob Kennedy?
Thanks for the link. I wonder about him every once in awhile. I live in Indy and saw him training at various times back before he retired. In one memorable day, I was out on the Monon during the dead of winter on a terrible day and he ran by -- we were the only two people training that day. This was pre-2000.
It seemed like he was destined to fade to the shadows as his wife took center stage, she lost her bid for Mayor and I haven't heard much about either of them since. I guess he still owns part of the store in Broad Ripple? I haven't been in there in years.
Asics?!
She became a big wig for a company in Indiana...probably worked out better for her. I had just read an article about the two of them and the running store last May. Anyway...glad to see him back at it.
I understand his phases through running.
I'm the same age and even rabitted for him before.
When you stop racing at a high level you don't want to run at all at first.
You're goal was always to run faster so why put in a decent amount of effort to run slower?
You get away from it for a bit.
Then you learn to run for basic fitness, which is something I never thought I would do.
Then maybe set new adjusted goals.
For me, I don't even race small 5Ks anymore because every time I schedule a race, I train a little too hard and hurt something.
I have been much healthier just running as I feel without race goals.
20 years ago it hurt every day to get up and put my feet on the floor. Now I actually feel better in my forties.
But it's still good to have a manageable goal to follow through on and wish Bob well in the marathon.

Kennedy is no longer involved with the Blue Mile running stores. He is now a co-owner of the Athletic Annex.
