Just curious as to what others think. Obviously, it's a stacked field but with the windy conditions could it turn into a tactical race in Meb's favor? Are his chances even slimmer than Boston? I don't see him even going out on pace with the leaders but miracles happen. What do you think?
Chances of Meb pulling off the miracle...again?

Meb will be kissing babies and shaking hands for the remainder of his pay days. He is a smart businessman but he is done with being a serious racer.
-
Depends if Ryan Hall is there to tell everyone else to let Meb go.
-
Only way Meb has a chance is if Kipsang, G Mutai and Kiprotich all have bad days. Seems unlikely + even then, he'd need everything to play out perfectly the way it did in Boston. Just don't see it happening.
-
Slim to none. If it is a fast pace for NY (1:03 half or quicker) Meb may hang on to 20 miles and then fall off. I seriously doubt he can run faster at NY than he did in Boston. Hopefully I am wrong. If it is a slower, tactical race, no one is going to let him go like they did in Boston. I wish him the best and would love to see him win again, but the odds are heavily stacked against him.

I think Meb will get 4th.
-
Meb will run 2:18. He is retired from training but still is a big enough name to collect appearance fees.
-
or if you have boneheaded pacing by all the other elites again while the women are ahead of you setting course records. Truly the most absurd Boston ever.
-
He definitely has a chance. Everytime he's won a marathon he's downplayed his fitness and was an underdog against faster opponents.
-
That was poor grammar but whatevs.

Well done sir. -

Not sure how Meb framed his Boston fitness, but his brother last December/January was very amped up about Meb's fitness, saying it was the best of his life, and getting excited about Meb's upcoming race in Boston. I know that part of that is being his agent and all, but still.
The problem I envision for Meb is having the fire the last 6 months for his NYC prep. I mean Boston was the last thing on his running bucket list, and when I saw him speak a week after his win you could just see the complacency. I'm not saying he hasn't put in good training, I'm just saying I think the spark went out momentarily. I think he will get motivated again to try to make one last Olympic team, if he can stay healthy, but I have low expectations for him this weekend. **disclaimer** I also had low expectations for him in London and I was proven to be quite wrong. -
Now that Meb is using the magical elixir "generation UCAN" I predict he will break the world record; potentially challenging the 2:00 barrier.

As we said in 2008 -

Very, doubtful.
Even if he is fit, there about 4 athletes I place ahead a Meb; however, that exactly what I said the last time and he proved me wrong. -
Will this race be Meb's acknowledgement he is passing on the baton to Ryan Vail and the younger generation? Sort of like when Deena Kastor passed it on to Shalane and the rest?
-
I'll go ahead and predict a 9th place finish in 2:12. Winner in 2:06-07.

Well, you also forgot the part that you need the NYRR to pay off all the elite runners to keep them from trying to win like the BAA allegedly did. -
