Hocker sticks to his race plan and he wins. If sitting and kicking works; then continue to do so until it doesn’t. Beautiful run by both and an exciting time for American distance running.
They wouldn't have gone under the world record if it wasn't for that move, respect to him for making that race.
Why did Hocker go when he did? I didn't hear him say in the interview.
Yep 1. Jakob Ingebrigtsen - 7:17.55 2. Daniel Komen - 7:20.67 3. Berihu Aregawi - 7:21.28 4. Grant Fisher - 7:22.91 (i) 5. Hicham El Geurrouj - 7:23.09 6. Cole Hocker - 7:23.14 (i)
Incredible run by both Fisher and Hocker today
Jakob ran 7:17.55 with wind and 90 degree F heat. He would have ran 7:14 today.
Marcin Lewandowski claimed Jakob could have run 7:14 at Silesia had it not been so warm. Hard to know if that is true, but it stands to reason that the heat in Silesia was far from optimal and Jakob could have gone even faster there had the conditions been better.
It seems highly unlikely that Jakob would have run 7:14 at Milrose.
Komen did it in unplayed spikes solo and no sprung track... Not comparable.
I don't think the people of Silesia invested millions for some super track. The Silesia DL track is good but normal. Jakob does have super shoes, but that is not the fastest track in the world by any means. He also had horrible 90° temps. Real runners know that 90° is way too hot...
But to focus back on Fisher, can we all agree that he is the "perfect" runner. I don't mean he is the best, but he seems to do everything as perfectly as possible. I bet if you made a list, the only thing he isn't doing well right now is building a training group around him to help him. Everything else is perfect: mileage, intervals, rest, physio, form, posture, sleep, weight, strength, balance, stretching, drills, coaching, massage, workouts, nutrition, mental game, etc.
He is not leaving anything on the table as far as I can see.
p.s. The Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial/Diamond League Silesia 2024 took place at the Silesian Stadium in Chorzow, Poland, which opened in 1956. The track is newer, of course, but not some kind of super track.

Oh my goodness, 90 meters were in the sun. Additionally when the Sun did touch the track it was at a low altitude. Yes the race was run in the shade.
This is simply incorrect, he even posted the video for you to watch. A majority of the time, Jakob was in the sun. How can you get something as wrong as this?
Posters here still don’t understand how Fisher can out kick Hocker in a 5000 let alone a 3000. This week there was a multi page thread about Valby’s kick never allowing her to win a race.
The difference between Valby and Fisher is that Fisher is the 4th best 5000m runner in the world last year and a 3:33 1500 runner (just last week).
Valby is the NCAA champ. That is not really comparable.
Valby's "kick" is probably great when she is racing against other college level athletes who are exhausted from running her pace. I think we all understand that, but how does that help her when going up against Sifan or Faith?

I don't think the people of Selesia invested millions for some super track. The Selesia DL track is good but normal. Jakob does have super shoes, but that is not the fastest track in the world by any means. He also had horrible 90° temps. Real runners know that 90° is way too hot...
Actually, real runners know that temperature is not an absolute measurement. As it applies to runners in competition the Suns altitude in the sky matters a lot. Running in the shade or low altitude is in no way comparable to running with a direct overhead Sun. You know this is true by your own experience. Go run at 2 or 3pm in afternoon in the Summer. Compare that to the same run, same temp at 7 or 8 pm in the evening. The first is hell. The second is absolutely pleasant. Or maybe you're not really a runner and can't understand the difference....

Quit being dishonest. You obviously didn't watch the video. 300m of each lap was in the shade. Its as plain a day. Pun intended.

Sure, some 90° conditions can be worse than other 90° conditions. Fair enough.
The point I was actually making was that 90° is far hotter than the ideal temps for a 3000m race, that's all. That is the part that nobody is arguing about.
But I also agree with you that there are almost never races where everything was as perfect as it could be. Every race seems to be missing this or that factor.
For example: I was in Portland on the night when Woody Kincaid ran his shockingly fast 5000m in sub-13 on the Nike track. It was "perfect" in terms of conditions and Mo Ahmed paced him for 4900m. There was no wind and the temps were ideal. But then someone reminded me, "this is just a glorified practice. Imagine how much faster he would have run in a competition that mattered like the Olympics."
So I think there is always a way to play the "if this had been different..." game.

This is completely false LOL. The Silesia 3000m was at 3 PM as well, so you are literally contradicting yourself here. You truly have no idea what you are talking about. Goodbye.

Perhaps you don't remember the 12:50 5000m race in Dubai a while back. The race was at 9pm, but Dubai, being near the equator has an early Sunset, therefore had no direct Sunlight (actually it was dark) at that time. If 90' was bad it would have affected them. It didn't.

I didn't know somebody could be this dumb. 90 degrees is degrees. You also receive the sun rays even while in the shade. Ever heard of reflection? It is an absolute fact that on a faster, temperature and wind controlled track that Jakob would run seconds faster.
believe it is only behind Komen, Jakob, and Aregawi.

Yup.
And just as a fun fact though Im sure most people are aware of it, both Jakob and Aregawi ran these times just a few months ago. Up until then only Komen has run a faster 3k. Which is pretty incredible.

You're way out of your depth. All temperature isn't the same.
