No this is not an insult to Bob, I just find it fascinating how people respond differently, detrain/train etc. Bob has way more natural talent than Steve. Its like Wejo or Rojo was saying about people getting and out shape fast or quick and final potential?

Your are wrong. First off, it sounds like you are forgetting Bob is old and when you stop running for 10 years and gain weight, you become just like any overweight mid-40s guy who doesn't exercise. He only recently lost weight and dose not do what would be considered training, his 3:26 is indicative of his former self. As slow as 3:26 might sound to you, most 3:26 guys are younger, smaller and train to run that time. Btw, why would Bob train for or care to run a 2:50 marathon...what does he have to prove?

She beat Kimiko Date's 3:27 (2004 London), but Amelie Mauresmo ran 3:16 in Paris two years ago.

At this point in his life if Bob Kennedy wanted to devote everything to run a sub 2:20 marathon he would do it within a year at age 45.
This guy is simply one of the greatest American distance talents of all time. He was a flabby high school kid who ran no more than 40 miles a week and won the NCAA Cross Champs his freshman year. With a high school pr for 3200 of 9:08.
