Wow, so he’s literally the best kid ever. amazing accomplishment!

How long did it take you to think that up? No, he is the fastest HS kid, let alone 16 year old to ever run that fast Indoors. I saw this young man in person today and he has it.

This kid is amazing but at the same time I'm not surprised that the HSR got smashed by someone. At some point in the middle of the summer, the top pros suddenly figured something out and started running 1-2 seconds faster. I don't think this is a new PED or shoes, probably the bicarb or something, but something is definitely up. So it's no surprise it's trickling down to college and high school.

Having said that, I'm highly impressed by this kid, especially doing this as a sophomore. And I have a feeling he'll run in the 1:44s this summer which will more than negate whatever 1-2 second magic 800 runners have found, so I think that Lutkenhaus is truly the best ever HS 800 runner.

We have one of the best HS 800 underclassmen at my kid's HS, not in Lutkenhaus' orbit but pretty solid. He didn't know about the bicarb. I don't know if he's planning on using it but I'm curious to see if he does and whether there will be a jump for him this year. Even without I think he's going sub 150 this year and it would be fascinating if he suddenly jumped to 147-148.

I hope this doesn't sound like I'm diminishing Lutkenhaus because that's not it at all, just saying I'm not surprised that whatever breakthrough the pros made last summer has somehow made it down the ranks. It could just be everyone has higher confidence after seeing someone else run fast. It certainly worked for Hocker.

hate to be that guy but is he clean? I mean this guy is the epitome of an anomaly. The term 'generational talent' feels like it doesn't do him justice.

I think he's clean. He ran 1:53 in MS at NON and I'm pretty sure he's been coached by Binning for awhile now. His brother was also good 800m guy in HS. I think he ran 1:53 or so.

The sophomore ran a smart and sorta conservative race, meaning if he went for it ALL OUT he could've possibly run low 1:46 possibly 1:45.9 but at the risk of exploding and dnf.

The question now is not whether he gets the high school outdoor record but how much he crushes it by before he is done. He has a very good shot at 1:44.9 this year and then in the future, who knows? This is almost reminiscent of what Mondo Duplantis was doing to the pole vault records in high school, only Mondo had been raised with a pole vault pit in his yard, so he came into high school with at least ten years of experience already, where most have two or three years at most at that point. Lutkenhaus came into the sport relatively late, in sixth grade, I think, and took to it incredibly well; even so, he's already dropped 7 seconds from a sensational eighth grade time.

Even with time to reflect on his performance, I am still in awe at how fast he ran and he did being sorta conservative. The 800m outdoors is most likely his and possibly as low as at least 1:45.4.

Only a sophomore and is less than 1/2 sec behind the HS outdoor 800 record set nearly 29 years ago.

Yeah I created several post about him. Most of them had push back. He has tools that no one has.

To recap:

He ran a

- 22.12 200m in March of last year pre-peak

- 47.22 400m in April of last year pre-peak

- 1:47.58 in June

Now, here is where I got push back. Given he ran the 200m & 400m early, he probably was faster in both given how much he improved later. 21 & 46 as a 15 year old freshman.

Then in August - he ran a 9:26 3200m with a 54 last 400m and a 25 last 200m. This indicates 9:10-9:15 3200m ability as a 15 year old.

Thats elite speed and elite endurance. In my opinion, he can still run 45.xx and sub 9 3200m

He's totally clean. Dad was a runner. Brother was a 1:50 in HS but didn't really get there until later in his senior year. They are taking it easy with him, but he works hard. Heck, he had NEVER raced indoors before the TT Meet a few weeks ago to prep for Millrose. Overall super kid.

Kid is a MONSTER. So great to see.

It will be a great moment when he takes down the HSR. Granville is a fan - would be cool if he was in attendance.

Can this kid break 4 in the mile? He has to be somewhat close? Or maybe not yet.

Outdoor HS record 1k is next. February 28 on his home track.

They are in no big rush to move him to the mile or 1600. His focus this year is to try and win the UIL 6A 400 and 800. Then see what's up. Good interview with his coach on MS from the Texas Coaches Convention.
