How do you pronounce “183th”? Is it “one eighty-threeth”?

More important, what does “183th” refer to? Rupp is now 85th (85rd?) on the all-time list.

yes, obviously.
American runs a big chunk under PR having a dodgy coaching setup and nobody is shouting doper? What's wrong with you guys?
No one tries to break Kipchoge early in London because it was a suicidal pace that no one could handle. No one can break away from Kipchoge at any point in a race, because he's better. Kipchoge already destroyed Rupp in the Olympic marathon where he put in a big surge late in the race that no one could handle?
Rupp ran a great race today, but as has been said before no sane person would rate him in Kipchoge's league.

yeah, no kidding. i'm guessing even Rupp will admit that.
but he's smart and consistent and younger that kipchoge and has less marathons in his legs and who knows what he can do. he gets faster every race.
i'm assuming with good weather and smart pacing, he can run faster that ryan hall's wind-aided Boston time 2:04:58. It's "only" 70 seconds away at this point. 2 seconds per mile with better weather and competition seems very likely. i really hope he gets the AR, but he might just be interested in winning majors. i'd go for Berlin or London if I was him. or a low-key fast one. he's good at those time-trial-esque races
Galen Rupp has started six career marathons. Here’s what he has done:
2016 Olympic Trials: 1st, 2:11:13
2016 Olympics: 3rd, 2:10:05
2017 Boston: 2nd, 2:09:58
2017 Chicago: 1st, 2:09:20
2018 Boston: DNF
2018 Prague: 1st, 2:06:07

Rupp just destroyed a 2:04 low runner, faster than Kipchoge, running near 2:06 flat on a warm day, on a poorly paced, hilly race with numerous turns. This is worth a time that's less than 2:03 in Berlin easily!!
Forget about Farah. This is sooooo much better. This is the most amazing marathon I have ever seen.!! Rupp did this all by himself!
preach it brotha. RUPP IS BACK BABY
I really thought this was a joke but so many people on here seem to sincerely believe that Rupp is somehow a better runner than Eliud Kipchoge, a man who has won 10/11 marathon starts (getting 2nd to a WR), has the third fastest official time, has the fastest unofficial time in the marathon, managed to run a 13:48 first 5k at London and still run low-4:40s after 24 miles in. Some of you mentioned that the Kenyans are doping, are you moronic? Can you really not see why that argument might not hold water in this context? Seriously though, Galen lost to Farah in three different Olympic races where Farah got 4 gold medals (with the 5k in 2016) and Galen got a single silver. Kipchoge on the other hand has only ever ran one race slower than Galen's 2:06, where of course Kipchoge easily beat Galen. Only three of his marathons have not been under 2:05, this isn't hard guys. Galen may be a good marathon runner in the heat but there's no way that he could have even beaten Farah in that race, the times are not comparable at all. Where Galen might have had a 2:05 projected time at some point in the race, the London marathon had a 1:56 projected time at 5k.
