This made my day!

Not the place for faux sincerity. Tom had cared much more about other people's running than about his own for several decades, and he wasn't trying to train or even to stay fit; thus his susceptibility to heart failure.
My favorite Fleming story: he and Bill Rodgers are sitting in the stands at the old Millrose Games in Madison Square Garden, back when there was a good crowd. Women's mile lines up with Suzy Favor Hamilton and Regina Jacobs. When the announcer starts listing Jacobs' credentials before saying her name, Fleming starts shouting really loud, "DOPER! You're on DRUGS!! Get out of the sport!!" And on and on, obliterating her introduction. The whole side of the arena is looking at him and he doesn't care at all. Rodgers is looking down and shaking his head with a smile on his face.
Old-school is right.
