Marathon Tours and Travel probably snatched everything up. I managed to book a hotel that allows cancellations and is only about half a mile from the finish line. Wanted a back up as I think that it is going to be a cluster f*ck when Marathon Tours and Travels opens up registration next week.

I went here and got one for Sat thru Tuesday near the buses. Of course at the inflated Boston rate. Uses some 3rd party consolidator for hotels and short term rentals-AirBNB.
https://findmymarathon.com/marathon-hotels.php?race=Boston%20Marathon&checkIn=09-12-2020&checkOut=09-15-2020I agree. I don’t think this will be fully over by then, but what do I know? Nothing. Just seems we got too late of a start, and still not enough is being done consistently and cohesively across our country for this to be over in a few months like ppl are talking. I hope I’m wrong, but China got way more extreme and though their numbers are going down, three months into it, their lives are still not back to normal.
It seems they wanted it to be at a time to be a “last chance to qualify” for Boston, but would’ve been better to defer us all to 2021 as I don’t think there will be nearly as many qualifiers for 2021 due to all of the marathons that won’t be run in 2020.
I am curious about this too. What makes people think that it will be clear and safe to have a crowd of 30,000 runners plus family members in early September?
I mean I guess we should hope that things will be blown over by then but who knows.
Schools near me are closing for 2 weeks. That seems like a very short window. Maybe after two weeks they will decide to be closed longer.
I don't see things getting much better in 2 weeks and am worried that this problem is going to be around all summer.
If the healthcare system is impacted and overwhelmed anything like areas in Italy or Iran, people are going to want to be very careful not to catch this thing and this may take longer than we hope to deal with it.
I am hoping things do get better but am not 100% sure things will be groovy in September.

You weren't quick enough. I know people that got finish line for regular rack rate. Booked immediately after the announcement.
Hey, it wouldn't be a Boston Marathon without price gouging.

Agree, 2 weeks is very optimistic. Months. Look at Signapore and Hong Kong. I'm optimistic about September.
We don't have to all catch this terrible virus. Look at Hong Kong. A large percentage of people don't have it.
But things need to change. The public needs to wear masks now. Any mask. We need to get those masks. Remember everyone shipping masks in January for people overseas? We need them to ship us masks now.
I agree and I feel completely the same.

Got curious and looked up the weather the past 4 years on September 14.
2016 - 88 degrees, 45% Humidity
2017 - 82 degrees, 56% Humidity
2018 - 72 degrees, 84% Humidity
2019 - 72 degrees, 70% Humidity
I thought temps were supposed to be going up every year.
Ok grandpa. The only people that still use the term “global warming” are still booting their computers to DOS. Nice troll attempt, though. Wait until you find out scientists cloned a sheep named “Dolly.” 1997 is gonna be a barn burner for you.
Both of you are close but neither are fully accurate.
If you purchased your ticket prior to March 1, then you have until 12/31/20 to use the amount of the ticket. Can be for any destination. Change fee waived.
If you purchased your ticket March 1 or subsequent, you have until 1 year from the date of the purchase. Other things the same.
Hope this clarifies.
No way this happens. Virus won't be contained by September.

I sort of agree with this but this is why September (early Sept) makes sense...let me explain. I think we'll see 3 distinct "waves" of the contagion through Spring 2021. This first wave will likely peter out in May, then pick up again in the Fall. I think early September might be the small window when the race could actually take place. And trust me, I'm almost certain the BAA is talking to epidemiologist and public health types that are feeding them the same information.
I can't get the article to open so maybe it answers what I'm about to ask. Does it say, or does anyone know, what's going to happen to runners who have contracts and are getting appearance money? Many of them will contract with a fall marathon and aren't going to want to run a hard Boston maybe 4-8 weeks in advance. And some will possibly just have run the Olympic Marathon, everyone official right now is still saying the Games will happen. Is this just a year when some pro marathoners are going to take a big pay cut?
I'm not happy about the switch. I can't make it in September. Partial refund BAA? It's only fair.
No, the articles have not said anything about the elite field. They're a drop in the bucket when compared to the travel plans for 30,000 other people. They'll have some kind of elite field, likely won't be as good as normal. Frankly if they just scrapped the elite race that might make sense too.
Sucks for the elites, but what are you going to do? The virus is going to pretty strongly alter everyone's lives for the next couple of months.
I'm not super excited about having to start up another marathon build, especially since it will be through the hot and humid summer here in the NE. But again, what are you going to do. Would be nice if they just gave people the option of getting their money back or doing this Sept race.
This is a global conspiracy, created by liberals throughout the world.

Not true. I knew the official date the day before the announcement *because* the rates were already so much higher for that weekend. Clearly the hotels/marathon tours already knew prior to announcement. Afterall, they're postponing to make $200M for the city.
Doomsday loser.
