When people fly somewhere for business what do they do? What do you do? I live inside the 90k acres of forest we manage, so like, I don’t travel much for work.

It's usually old people who don't want to learn how to use skype.

Meetings, presentations, a lot of focus groups. There have been many times when I have flown from the west coast to the east coast for a 1 or 2 hour meeting or session. Incredibly wasteful, but I racked up over 100k miles a year for many years. A lot of free vacations for the family.
I solve problems.
I build things. Kinda hard to do if you're not there, so travel.
I’ve built up over 3 million miles in my United account and 2 million points with Hilton; plenty of miles for retirement or a spur of the moment flight to Europe or someplace to race.
True, a lot of my ‘business’ trips could have been done over the phone, but as long as the client is paying, I’ll keep my bag packed. 3 day trip with 1-2 hours of work gives a lot of time to good off and charge the client.

Business flying for me was for fieldwork in small villages off the road system (otherwise I'd drive): characterizing, cleaning up, monitoring contaminated sites, collecting samples to be analyzed.

All my work flying has been at the behest of old people who don't want to learn how to use skype - or well think up practical solutions.

No worries, you will get Corona virus as well.
As long as poor people have to serve the rich, the Corona virus will be distributed equally.
Never been in first class . I have been on a plane three times .
I always wondered what it is like behind that curtain.
I just presume they are bourgeois and I the proletariat.

Oh for goodness sake. We shouldn't be subjected to poor people's problems. I'm going to ask my attendant to wear a face mask when she hands me my caviar and Kombucha today.

Good thing that the caviar was portioned by a low wage kitchen helper who is coughing for a week now but she is not able to take sick leave.
So enjoy zipping your Kombucha tea while the virus is creeping inside you.
I have to be physically present to do the work we do.
We also use platforms like LogMeIn and AR and VR where appropriate
The real question is - why do you fly business for private trips?
Of course, if company pays for it anyone should fly business.
The advantages are big - much better meals, more room, ability to sleep, top-class service, and access to lounges on airport if needed. Also ability to rebook without charge
I got to fly with business once because of a trade and it was a fantastic experience.
Would I pay for it? I think the threshold should be ~100k of net worth in cash to be able to frequently buy business class instead of economy. That's achievable by most people, and flying business every now and then won't significantly hurt the net worth.
