Yes. Both groups painted them black. Johnny Crain from Zap/On did wear On shoes though. Montanez is sponsored by On as well but is not part of Zap.

An alternative conclusion is that the best runners wear the best shoes. In other words, the runners make the shoes look good. This has been happening for decades. Every time a new, better shoe comes out all the top runners wear it. It's called a self-fulfilling prophecy. You think the shoes are great, so all the top runners wear them. Then the top runners are still the top runners so you inaccurately say the shoes made them fast.
Saying the Alphaflies or Next% make you great is the same as saying MJ was great because of Jordan's.
Riley wore the Alpha Fly

Crap runners wear crap shoes. The runners make the shoes look bad.
Mmmm, no. What is true is that Nike has been very liberal with its sponsorship of top men. The only way for anyone else to compete is to get the same shoes.
Why Nike hates women is another story. I guess they don't like being called out for being douche bags.

There's more than one alternative, and both extremes are obviously incorrect. No one is seriously claiming that anyone can put on these shoes and run a world record. Likewise the opposite extreme claim that the shoes make no difference at all has been pretty well disproven at this point both by scientific studies measuring running efficiency in lab settings as well as by large-scale statistical analyses of race results (analyses which do in fact take into account factors like "faster runners tend to wear 'faster' shoes"). With the data we currently have, only the most irrational denialists can continue to claim that the shoes make no difference.
