Are you? Yes I didn't know they had a couple good finishes in the 90s, other than that I've explained how things are unlike you guys(guy) who will defend NC State without acknowledging anything wrong with it.
Are you kidding? Those schools have every major.
i just love reading all the comments from the losers and haters. we are talking about a girl who could have gone to any school she wanted. she saw what she saw. talked to a lot of people. and this is the place she decided would make her the happiest. Very bright girl. Humble. Grounded. Is going to do well in life no matter what. And she will do on her terms, hopefully with a smile on her face, most of the way.

Excellent post

Do you deny that white people in the US have had privilege in that in many cases, their families were able to immigrate to the US legally, and stay and work legally, and some of them accumulated wealth or property. None of them had to be enslaved for generations, and then oppressed in other ways.
This is an unfair post.
https://www.snopes.com/news/2019/08/07/percent-of-whites-owned-slaves"...the nationwide calculation for the percentage of “families owning slaves,” is 7.4%".
It's unfair for you to constantly emphasize "WHITE privilege" when most whites didn't own slaves. Italian, Irish, and German immigrants in the 20th century did not own slaves. It's completely unfair to them.
Lots of white soldiers died to stop slavery. Lots of Christian families took the risk to help slaves escape in the underground railroad.
There were also oppressed whites who were called "indentured servants" from places like Ireland.
https://www.irishcentral.com/opinion/niallodowd/why-the-irish-were-both-slaves-and-indentured-servants-in-colonial-america"But the Irish did suffer tremendously and there is a clear tendency to undermine that truth. Adults and children were torn from their homes, transported to the colonies in bondage against their will, and sold into a system of prolonged servitude."
It's completely unfair for you to single out whites and attack them.

OK, I will play.
You said.......
1."Wish all the best to Tuohy, a little surprised by the NC State choice just because of their abysmal record with stud runners, but things have been better the last year or two."
NOT TRUE.....their record speaks for itself. They have averaged 7th place over the last five years in the NCAAs with their finishes being 5th, 4th, 8th, 13th and 5th.
2."Stop dragging this thread down, what in anything that or others have said makes you think we haven't looked at their results"
NOT TRUE....you clearly have not looked at their results because you said this years 5th place finish was....by far...the programs best finish.
3."Numerous times I've said they had a great year this year, by far their best in program history, by far."
NOT TRUE.....this year was not their best in program history. Not even their best finish in the last 4 years.
4."Hopefully that's a trend and not an outlier for Tuohy's sake."
NOT TRUE....how can it be an outlier when it isnit even their best finish in the last four years and they average 7th place in the last 5 years?
5."But by and large they have not had success with female distance runners."
NOT TRUE.....see above results.
6."I will state again, I sure hope for Tuohy that this years very great finish was not an outlier, but there is very little to back that up."
NOT TRUE......again...look at the last 5 years of results.
7."Compare that to the other school she was looking at: 2015 - 6th
2016 - 2nd
2017 - 9th
2018 - 4th
2019 - 13th
It's fairly close but one has a clear edge. "
NOT TRUE.....this team totals 6.8 for the last 5 years and NCSU averages 7.0 for the last 5 years...no clear edge.
8." but kind of seems like an odd choice. I think the excitement of NC State doing well this year and all the other recruits played a big part of it. Sadly there is little to back up that they know what they are doing with a stud like her."
NOT TRUE.....why would it be an odd choice when NCSU is signing many of the top runners? And again you try to peddle that NCSU has only done well this year. Look at the results of the other runners (and their rankings) to see what they have done. They have also won many ACC Champioonships and Regional Championships.
9."I corrected myself about their best year in history. Which also you may be wrong on as well as it might be 2001."
NOT TRUE....where did I say anything about what was their best year?
You clearly do not know much about NCSU and their womens cross country team and history.
I am not attacking anybody. I am not saying all whites enslaved people. I am saying that the black people brought to America were enslaved, and their descendents were also enslaved for generations. I cannot list or define all the 'privilege', but some were enslave, and some were not. Curiously, it was the people brown of skin who were enslaved. And their children were enslaved. And their children were enslaved. Generations. So some white people fought and died to try to end slavery? Well as a person who believes that slavery is wrong, shouldn't we strive to end it in our own country? Or would you have been fighting for 'states rights'? And yes there were some white indentured servants, but that is far from slavery. Indentured servants still had rights, and their servitude was not lifelong and hereditary. per Snopes
Also, I am not on here constantly emphasizing white privilege. I was trying to counter someone's off-topic misinformation.
Admittedly I missed the years they finished 2nd and those were better than this year, you or someone called me out on that.
Do this for me because right now for some things you are just saying NOT TRUE, do this: Name 1 girl who as a top flight HS distance runner(Footlocker, NXN, etc...) who went to NC State and significantly improved. Name 1 in the last 10 years. Because that is probably what she should have been looking at. Chmiel while running solid, regressed and again that was mainly off of her HS training. Maybe I don't know NC State all that well but I don't think there are any or many?
Name 1 NC State Runner from the last 10 years who has gone on to have a successful pro career(Place well at USATF, etc...)
College is better wrote:
That is why Stanford or Notre Dame or Michigan make more sense. Even Georgetown or Duke or Vanderbilt sound better to a parent. But NC State?
Yeah. If the college experience is so important then why even run on team especially bound by a partial scholarship? Just study, hang out with friends, and maybe work part time.
One of the reasons the US is so great is that prestigious undergrad colleges don't mean much except for bragging and maybe connections. Schools like Stanford (excluding schools with regional prestige like Notre Dame and Michigan) , etc. graduate only 10k or some multiple every year yet the world keeps turning.
Now you are telling the truth.....you do not know NC State that well, yet you have no problem talking smack about them all while being dishonest. NC State is a great school with a great women's cross country team, coach and staff. There is a reason they have been so successful and are bringing in an incredible class (not just Tuohy).

Now you're backtracking.

But your experience cannot speak to whether or not someone else also had unfair treatment, and in what ways.
You want to put emphasis on this leftist idea of "white privilege" when it's completely unnecessary. African Americans get scholarships and do well in college football, basketball, track, etc. There is no visible "privilege" for white students over others when it comes to sports. This whole idea is irrelevant and shouldn't even have been mentioned once by leftists like you.
https://nypost.com/2017/05/31/college-melts-down-over-plan-for-white-people-free-day-on-campus/This is the nonsense that's going on with your kind of rhetoric.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ku_Klux_Klan"It expanded membership dramatically to a 1924 peak of 1.5 million to 4 million... Estimates of total collective membership range from about 3,000 to between 5,000–8,000."
The KKK has decreased in the 1920s from 4 million people to just a few thousand in the year 2016 because of protests and education.
You want to divide society by perpetuating this idea that "whites are against you!"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOiQgleiRtU&t=1m5sI want you to listen very carefully. An old, black actor says that there is no race problem against blacks. He also says you should stop making an issue out of it.
It's completely unfair to keep attacking innocent whites about "privilege".
This discussion is over.

Here, let me restate my entire post since you clearly didn't want to answer my question. Honestly I am trying to have a conversation, you are spouting off about how good NC State is. I've provided reasons and evidence that while they are solid program they seem to lack the history of taking the next step. I'm fully acknowleding that, that, could change. However all we have is the past to look on. So make fun of me again and you prove me right. Answer my questions and we're having a discussion and actually moving forward.

I get to say when the discussion is over = white privilege.

there seems to be an assumption she could go to any school she wanted, maybe she couldnt get admitted to stanford or vanderbilt or somewhere else, GPA isnt the only factor the admissions dept looks at when a coach sends it over for review. Maybe her test scores were too low for e.g stanford or vandy or duke.
you wrote 'You want to divide society by perpetuating this idea that "whites are against you!"
I didn't say that. Saying that privilege exists, is not an attack. It is an observation.
Interesting. The Tuohy lovers will have us believe that she scored a 36 and that NC State is as good as Stanford. Could some of these girls actually be average students?

no way, they are at the top of their class, 36 ACT but really want to go to NC state just because the weather is so good in raleigh and the girls on the team are so friendly..but wait, the weather is the same at UNC and Duke, the problem is UNC and Duke have higher admission standards so maybe that is why they go to NC State..Coach Riley-Duke and Coach Miltenberg-UNC have the same weather but they have a tougher admissions dept and they both have solid running programs and proven themselves as very capable coaches
Even if these girls are intelligent, they are dumb. If they could have gone to a top school but chose NC State, they made a bad decision.
...Back to 'privilege'.
You have written that Irish immigrants were underprivileged. And poor whites. Yes, privilege can be for different things. Background (Irish or English), wealthy or poor, attractive or not, tall or short, male or female, gay or straight. And black vs white. All these things are worth acknowledging and thinking about.
