Hofbauer ran 2h09.51, not 2h09.12 - since the Can record is 2h09.25 (Levins last year).
Where did that come from? is a reasonable supposition as he has no pedigree for that performance. But then Pidhoresky ran about the same improvement to win the Canadian women's title (and also put herself on the team). Hopefully Trevor H. can back that up with similar/equivalent performances going forward.
I was on the course....there were PERFECT conditions. 7 Celsius, and completely calm (literally Lake Ontario looked like glass). I have been at the race for 20 years and this was by far the best race day conditions ever. Hence the records on both the men's and women's sides.
Hofbauer was faster a few years ago, and did indeed not start the year well, But word had it he was training incredibly well and the guy always held promise. He is a huge guy, and looked really bouncy as he ran past me at 41km. He is legit....congrats to him on booking a ticket to the Olympics.
Congrats to Dana too on the women's side. That is a huge result.
What happened to Levins?
Odd that nobody is talking about the awful smell that is pervading the Toronto waterfront from the cargo ship fire. My kids both vomited upmtheir bagels from the acrid odour. It can’t have been fun for the runners tomdeal with that. I had assumed the race would be called off.
He looked like crap at 13km. I’m surprised he finished.
Then again...maybe he is finished?

Reminds me of a hybrid of Steve Jones and Craig Mottram.

Did Levins qualify for the Olympics? He was third Canadian and ran 2:09 last year.

Brian Sell PR only 2:10:47. and he was much smaller than him. T.H. is gotta be what, 180 pounds??
Incredible to do that at that weight!
Levins is in the pool to be picked, ie: by comimg 3rd at the trials (Tristan Woodfine was 2nd in 2:13). However, Cam will likely have to run under 2:11.30 to secure a spot in the spring , althouhg his "world Ranking" may be enough if no ther Canadians get standard. His 2:09 occurred before the Olympic window opened, so is not eligible. With that said, he actually ran well at a high 2:09 pace until about 34km today. He bonked like hell, but held on to finish. I actually think he looked rusty, and needs to race more. If he can get another good build in, I think for sure he can grab a spot for Tokyo. I hope so!
Although Becky Wade-Firth was first American women I don't believe she'll be pleased with time. She may not have speed and injury resistance to get into the 2:25 or below territory. Probably not going to make Tokyo team. Still has a few years to try to figure out the 'thon.

Trevor is my new hero. At the 32km turnaround, he verred over to high five Levins, who was already fading.
He is goofy a d extremely authentic. The Craig Engels of The North.

Non of this is your concern. Mind your own business .
He's also self-coached and I don't believe is sponsored. He was a part of Speed River in Guelph for a few years but I think got burnt out on it a bit, moved back to Calgary and used himself as a "science experiment" or some similar wording. There was a good article from his last Canadian champs title in 2017. Awesome guy!
Coward.

New Balance should end all ties with him.

What happened to Dibaba Kuma? DNS?
Trevor trains in my home town Calgary and I see him around the track and at XC races from time to time. He went to my school, SAIT, and was a mediocre collegiate athlete by all accounts from my friends who knew and trained with him (27:14 for 8k XC 2012).
He started having success at the half marathon a few years after he finished school and ran 64:30 for the half in 2015. In 2017 he debuted and was the top Canadian in the Toronto Marathon in 2:18:06 stopping to high five people right before the finish line.
He went into this race with a 2:16:48 pb from this year in Hamburg. He wears his heart on his sleeve and is an awesome dude. My teammates and I are shocked by what he just did today.
