I would think that on any 100m WR run, the split time at 50m / 60m might be faster than the actual 50m / 60m WR?
MJs 200m WR would surely be the fastest 150m ever?
A 10000m WR encompasses the fastest 8k ever?
Are these things monitored?

The fastest 100m probably also encompasses the 97m WR, the 97.5m WR and the 99.99999m WR. Just like the 10k WR probably encompasses the 9980m WR, etc. No one cares to keep track of how fast a real world record compared to an obselete distance "world record." The fact that they are running world records in real events is an accomplishment enough.
Um....but what about 50m and 60m in a 100m? If you were the 60m WR holder, could you be sure that no-one had split faster in 100m? This was my point, not 99m or 9999m.
Also, suppose a 3:42 Mile splits 3:25 for 1500m today. Is that the new 1500m WR?
Just curious.
do they keep track of who the 60m WR holder is? pretty sure there isn't an official WR for that. where does one run a 60m race?
the only race where an intermediate split is often taken (and could be used for record purposes) is a 1500m enroute to a mile.
those longer records like hour WR and stuff also often have intermediate splits taken for record purposes like 20K or something. but those are obviously lightly contested.
The 60m indoor world record is 6.39 by Maurice Greene although Bruny Surin went through 60m outdoors at 6.38 at the 1999 world champs (where Greene proceeded to run him down in 9.80)

Come on, Chuck.
well, you can't run a 60m outdoors and have it count as an indoor record. i'm just confused about what this guy is asking. the records our sport keeps are not simply 'who has ever run this distance the fastest under any conditions.' there are certain conditions that have to be met.
OK, let me rephrase:
What is the fastest 60m or 50m ever run, under any circumstances?
Same with 8km.
probably the downhill 50m with a running start.
getting a definitive answer to this one is going to be a bit difficult.
This

might help. It is 10 meter splits for some majorly fast races. I think Malmo posted it some time ago.

I think it would probably be around 10 feet. I can't imagine someone spitting further.
Ben Johnson ran 6.33 through 60m en route to his later DQed 9.79.
Of course, many many athletes have run faster than that if you take into account, say, the middle 60m of a 100m race. But we won't get into that.
you might want to check guinness about that. i know the WR for spitting a dead cricket is over 30 feet.
the 8k world record on the road is apparently 22:03 by peter githuka at crazy 8's in 2001.
bekele went through the 8,000m mark in 21:08.94 during his 10k wr (http://www.zlatatretra.cz/online2004/re0180040.html).
lol
This is getting ridiculous...
OBVIOUSLY the fastest 60m time ever run was not in a 60m race, and the same goes for the 100m. The start is a major component of the race in both cases.
The chinese woman who set the 10k world record broke the 5k record (unofficially) en-route.
What were the splits for the 1st 100 and 2nd 100 in MJ's world record 200?
