This may be on another thread-just let me know which one.
How much money do you get for the Tour win and how does he split it with his team? Do you get extra money for stage wins? Does the entire team (managers, PT, doctor?, drivers, etc.) get paid from the win proceeds?
Does Discovery also pay him and the team a flat amount? Are there incentives?
What about endorsements?
My running buddy and I are having a debate about this so I am looking for factual information.
Thanks,
Lance and the team made about $700,000 in TDF winnings. Traditionally, the team evenly divides the winnings. The team members all have a salary from Discovery, which may range from about $75k-$200k depending on who you are. Lance is estimated to make between $30-$40mill per year form all his endorsements, Nike, etc.
according to some cnnsi article I read, I think the endorsment $ for Lance is more like 15 million.
As for his Disco $, I think a top GC rider (Jan, Mancebo, Levi) will usually make 1-3 mil/year from a team.
The better question is, would you give up one of your nuts to make as much as Lance has made? Not I!
Why not, you would be making enough money to make up for the "oh..you only have one" comments. Women go for money, not numbers of balls.
Sports Illistrated has their list of the top 50 sports earners. Lance is in there at #17, I think, at $28.7 million last year.
Now that's EVERYTHING, including all the commercial and endorsement deals. BTW, Tiger was #1 at something like $88 million.
less than oprah
40 million dollar a year? I'd give both nuts and even consider chopping off my weiner.
How do you know he didn't have one implanted like a breast implant? They must have them and with his money he could buy a larger set if he wanted to. Although I think a small set would be preferable for bike riding.
Do you think he will share any of that?
Right. June 04 to June 05 he made $28 mil
Yeah, Outside The Lines said in their piece on Lance the other night that he was slated to make 15 million this year from endorsements.
I might consider cutting off a leg for $40 mil per year.
right, get a big honkin one like as big as a billiard ball. flash it in the shower.
Link to Velonews report on how much Land and Discovery made at the 2005 TdF:
The same SI article that listed his earnings also put him near the top among those who give back to charity.
The big question is how much does his ex wife make from his success? You always have to pay your babies momma!
that's not a lot of money compared to any professional sport!
Thanks for the info. everyone. I am surprised the Tour winnings are "only" around $700K, but astounded at his total earnings!
I guess that's why he was able to refurb the abode in Spain and buy Sheryl that antique MB...
