Anyone know anything about Edrick Floreal as a coach. I saw his bio on Stanford's web page, but I'm wondering if anyone has insight into what kind of Head Coach he would make for Cal. Apparently, he is one of 5 finalists.

Not a good one. Who are the other four Cal finalists?
Edrick is an awesome coach. The improvements he gets from his athletes are great, plus he is a tireless worker and will definitely get the Cal program up and running.
Just check out the things he has done at Kentucky and Stanford. Plus, he's a Dick Booth follower, and there aren't many jumps coaches better than Booth.
He killed kentucky. anderson left him a gold mine and he ruined it.
The others, I believe, are Chris Huffins, Cal assistant Robyne Johnson, and two D-1 Head coaches whose names are being kept under wraps--I would imagine to protect their current programs.
What has Edrick done for Stanford? (This is a sincere question, I don't know much about the guy as a coach) And same question about Robyne Johnson for Cal...
I keep hearing it's Huffins job to lose then I hear that's it's down to Huffins and Floreal. Tonight I find out Huffins has not even had his interview yet. Lot's of speculation no one has a clue.....
Five candidates remain in the hunt for the Cal job and interviews will be completed within a week: Chris Huffins, Eldrick Floreal of Stanford, Stanley Redwine of Kansas (new name), and two 'secret' candidates. My guess would be Kevin Anderson of AZ State and Robyne Johnson of Cal.
Robyne Johnson name was in there from the start and yes she did interview ( as she has head coaching experience ) Also, Regina Jacobs and her husband also had had interview. The AD is taking his time and I have also heard Huffins has not been interviewed yet which seems odd if he's really a serious candidate since school is starting Monday and he's still at Georgia Tech. Again, Cal's staff is in place for the 2002-2003 thus they are in no hurry ( infact Sandoval has his first contact with his team today, you think any other major university has there first team meeting on Aug 22, pathetic, but that's another story ) Remember, Cal is not looking for an event track coach but a "Director of Track and field"....and they pay sucks. ( J.C. head coaches would be taking a pay cut )
Anderson is not a candidate, but the others mentioned are, as well as one other D-1 coach (a white female). I'm not sure who has already interviewed, but I believe Huffins is due to be interviewed in the coming week. Interesting that the finalists include one white male, one white female, one black female, and two black males. Maybe just a coincidence, but I'd bet money that the new head coach is a black male. I have no idea which one they'll choose, but I'd venture to guess the other candidates are in place for PC purposes. Just a guess, I could very well be wrong...
i'm not fat. i'm big-boned.
Any idea why Regina Jacobs/Tom Craig didn't make the cut?(-;
Maybe you should keep humming you racist bastard, why is everyone so threatened with the idea of black people in power positions. Obviously you're not a candidate so shut up about the political correctness. Are you trying to say something about the validity of black American coaches? If you are say something, otherwise shut your racist mouth.
I'm truly hoping this was just a humorous attempt at starting some dialogue. I don't believe any of my above assertions convey any sort of racist tone. First of all, I am Black, second of all, I simply stated that, in my humble opinion, the next head coach at Cal will be a Black male. There was no judgement passed about such a choice, just one person's attempt at guessing what the outcome a this search will be. And my sarcastic question regarding Ms. Jacobs certainly had nothing to do with the color of her skin...
And, oh yeah, before you call someone a bastard, you should find out what gender they are... I know this a male dominated board, but not everyone on it is male (or white)
Some people need to tone down the volume. Cal has no intention of hiring a white male for this job, and this was made clear from the start. Is this any differnt from what the conferenec A.D.'s do with football jobs? Of course not, but Cal is very close to violating the law with the way they have handled this. This conference racially profiles jobs, and it stinks in all directions.
I don't know who hmmm thinks the white male finalist will be, but she's misinformed. The finalists are 2 African-American males, 1 African-Canadian male, 1 African-American female, and one white female.
If they don't pick Huffins, they should just get Erv Hunt to stay where he is and coach for another year.
The point is, why does it matter, are you all against affirmative action or something. Actually the number of Black college football coaches is on the decline from 2000. And if hmmmm really is a Black female why should I have to remind her of the power paradigm in this country. Yes I do think it is ok to purposely hire a minority because for the past 200 years in this country white males have been hiring white males for that very reason. Is everyone a republican on these message boards, I'm beginning to think so.
You sound like a bitter racist yourself. There was NOTHING that hmmm said in her post that indicated racism. If you call that racism then you minimize what racism really is. By the way, everyone is not a republican on this board and please try not to be so bitter.
