Oh, and #3 ranked Washington was 7th place (193 points) at the 5k. I'm guessing those guys are saving their energy for the final 1k...

Thanks for the updates.
Was Penn tempoing? 16 second spread for their top 6.
Based on Flotrack's #16 ranking write up on Harvard they were missing potentially 3 of their top 5 in Milner, Batershill, and Collin Baker. Anyone know if these guys are healthy?
Henry Raymond and Pompilj also absent from Dartmouth's lineup.

Not sure about the other Harvard runners. Their student newspaper noted they were without Milner, but nothing about the other two. Not sure if they are injured at the moment or just waiting until their next "big" meet (I think it's Wisco) to pull out the top squad.
As for Penn, I have a feeling they were tempoing. Dolan likes to slowly buildup the teams in September so they can really bring it in October/HepsXC.
Paul Short Invitational was today. Princeton, Dartmouth, Brown, Cornell, and Penn sent athletes to race.
I find it odd that all of the Princeton men A-team kids were in the open race, where they essentially did a tempo run/pack run. They finished 4th thru 9th in a 4 second spread, with 2 more in 11th and 12 about 2 seconds back.
Penn men finished 2nd in the Gold race behind Utah State, while Penn women was 3rd behind Queens University and Adams State.

Columbia was in the women's brown race.
Not surprised Princeton men all ran open... seems to be a typical Vig move... not race all out until heps where they are able to win, and then tank at nationals because they haven't been in a big race all year. Maybe he knows and just doesn't care about anything but heps. Seems like a selfish move on his part though.

... and I'm guessing the Mid-Atlantic Region continues to be a pretty "weak" region, so Princeton can almost guarantee themselves a top 2 finish in order to make it to NCAA Nationals.

Vig's strategy does makes sense considering that Princeton can just cruise through the regular season, and still make NCAAs without any points as the Mid-Atlantic is weak, and looks like it will be this year as well. This also keeps them fresh for Heps obviously, and from what I've heard, Heps is what the rest of the Princeton staff is focused on considering it seems like every year now they have a strong chance of winning the Triple Crown (XC-Indoor-Outdoor). It is disappointing though that they don't emphasize invitationals at all now, and like the first poster said this strategy has not helped them once they get to NCAAs as you would have to say they've disappointed the last two years. The only way I see him abandoning this strategy, though, would be if they were to run poorly at regionals and not qualify for NCAAs because they did not even attempt to get any points during the regular season, but as long as the Heps titles keep coming I don't think many people at Princeton are complaining.
Could the meet champions win D2?
They continually bring in enough talent... if they redirected their focus I think they could be far more competitive nationally. Not one of their guys has been AA in years yet they have gotten incredibly impressive recruiting classes. Some of this could also be credited to rigorous academics and not training like pros like some of the NCAA. I would just like to see the team that has been cleaning up this conference compete on a national level
This weekend is a biggie in terms of NCAA Kolas points - Nuttycombe/Wisco and PreNationals.
At Wisco, Harvard (M&W), Columbia (M&W), and Princeton (M)
https://results.flotrack.org/XC-PTT.html?mid=1805
At PreNationals on Saturday, Cornell (M&W), Dartmouth (M), Yale (M&W)
http://pttiming.com/events/87931607
At Penn State National Open on Friday, Penn (M&W), Princeton (W)
https://results.flotrack.org/XC-PTT.html?mid=1806
Princeton will be hosting their season invitational on Saturday. Columbia and Penn also have this meet on their calendar too. HepsXC is at VCP this year, so it won't be serving as a course preview.
Brown will be hosting their own event on Saturday (Rothenberg Run), and Harvard is scheduled to send some athletes there too.
Cornell will be keeping some of their athletes local, as they have the Canisius Invite scheduled for Saturday.
Dartmouth women will be taking the weekend off after they competed at the New England Championships last weekend.
Looks like Nia is indeed running. Penn up to #1 in the weak Mid-Atlantic without Isabel Hebner who transferred. Looks like Hebner's identical twin Monica also transferred from Duke to UCLA?
Do they really need Nia? Can't she have a season off (or at least a low key season) since she's a potential NCAA title contender for both indoors and outdoors again?
