He was 5th in Rio, and he’s been improving fast. Before Rio his PR was under 21

Also I wouldn’t say Thiago was a huge fluke in Rio. He hasn’t been very consistent but he was junior world champ, junior panam champ, and got silver in the youth olympics.

Oh great, so he exactly tied Jim Ryun's 53-year old World Junior Record. I hate ties. Ryun should still keep it alone...........since his was on dirt!!

Agree with your picks to make the team. I hope Yomif and Clayton don’t get to discouraged from this race. I’m sure this race was not a top priority for Salazar of his athletes. Kudos to Sifan and Konstance, good day for Salazar’s females!

They should have a one-on-one runoff to decide who gets the record.

Yomif is not a 1500m runner. It's not his distance, wasn't expected to win or be in the top 3 with the real middle distance ru runners. ..He is just out there to work on speed.
lol @ Kwemoi.... last in the 2 mile. And this is the guy who ran 3:28 at age "18."
There's nothing I love more than seeing the frauds crash and burn.
There’s no evidence Armstrong ever doped - NONE- EVER IN HISTORY!

Other than he admitted it.
Gidey absolutely made the 3000. Heady effort in non-perfect conditions. Hassan and KoKo can thank her profusely.

Barega even finds the pacing slow. Lesson learnt from DL in Oslo is that 60s/lap is fine for 3k-races.
Cheptegei took over the rabbit there before 1700 metres when they were already six seconds outside the pace you call fine. He and barega crushed the remainder with pb’s but still outside 7.30. Nobody is running 8.02 tonight, there is no Daniel Komen in this field.
They were closer than I thought

From where?

I think you are right. That caused Dibaba to chase out fast to go after her, and she was spent after that.
at 21, was that her breakout race? 5000m - 10000m is going to be interesting as hell.
But I think hassan could pull off the double. But Obiri would have to be very off for that to happen. It appeared that she wasn't even interested in this race.

Ok for the 2 mile. If Barega doesn't got with the pace (8;02 pace) everyone is going toirate. Apparently, he's the only one that wanted a hot pace so some people were telling JG behind the scenes they'd be irate if he doesn't go for it.
Sub 7:30 for 3000 is done often by the top 5000 guys. Just another 200 and odd meters in 30 seconds or so. Surprised so far only one person has ever ran a sub 8 minutes for 2 miles.
It isn’t done THAT often, and when it is done it’s usually 7:29 or 7:28 high, neither of which are sub 8 pace let alone sub 8 equivalents. Those extra 18 and change meters matter.

Her progression has been very steady, but this was a big step up for her. Last year she was usually around 3rd-5th in DL races, is a past world junior XC champ, and got world XC senior bronze this Spring. She is quite beautiful and seems to run in a bit of a trance (might explain her misstep).

USA women's sprinting is hurting right now
- Bowie has been away for a long time. I don't think she is going get her form back quick enough to be able to compete
for the WC
Hobbs and Richardson - NOPE..don't see it...maybe Richardson.
- Gardner coming back from a huge knee injury, and was never a big big threat.
Are you not keeping up with the sprint scene? Bowie will be FINE!! She has plenty of time, worlds are not until OCTOBER!! In addition, she is the 2017 world champ and thus has a bye to the 100m so she doesn't even need to be in top 3 at USAs.
People do your research before you start making nonsense conclusions. I think people forget how late worlds are this year, no need to be in PR form in July.

PB for Jones, and Hull destroyed her, which should eliminate doubt as to who would have won at NCAAs if Jones had opted for 1500.
Certainly a great race by Hull, but I don’t think you can necessarily say that Hull would have beaten Jones in the 1500 at NCAAs. Today’s race was essentially Jones’ season opener in the 1500. How many 1500s did Hull race this outdoor season before she ran faster than Jones ran today (not sure how many, but Hull did not run faster until the NCAA final).
Hopefully the two will get a chance to race again later in the season after Dani gets another couple 1500 races in.

You are very naive to think that doesn’t happen with the most successful sports brand fully focused on profits.
Wait? A company that's focused on profits??? What's the world coming too?
Also along those same lines, its one thing to have an sponsored athlete busted for drugs, its a whole nother thing to aid or abet the taking of said drugs. The risk to the corporation is far greater in the second case - and too those precious profits. Since the benefits to the company of just about any sponsored track athlete are minimal, taking any kind of risk in that manner (besides turning a blind eye - and having plausible deniability) I expect is unlikely in most cases.
Maybe you’re way too young to remember or weren’t even alive yet, but you have heard of the 80s right? Everybody knew athletes were taking steroids, understood the risks and that it was fkn cheating, and yet Nike and none of the others were above it one bit - endorsements remained pretty solid. Pull your head out of your a$$ son.
