I was wondering why they chose a northern route during the coldest part of the year.
I'm guessing that the north route is a better alternative than crossing NM, AZ during the summer months. You can always dress for the cold but you can only undress so much for the heat.
I am the writer of the column posted above. I had the chance to talk to them on their cell phone one day during one of their daily treks, and they seemed to be very respectful, fun loving, and polite. I enjoyed talking to them. Dave told me that the reason they chose a northern route was mainly due to the fact that for the most part, the North is more developed or has more towns than the South has. They know that there will be a lot of long deserted stretches in the plains states, but thought the South would have even more and longer deserted stretches.
Of course, their home and college were along the first part of the northern route as well.
I'm glad the guys are off to such a good start and that they seem to be doing so well despite the weather. I second the jealous thought -- it's obviously a very tough thing to do, but I would do it in a second.
Run the USA. What a joke. Should be called Gallo-walk the USA.
Traversing the US is a little different from 26 covering measly miles. What these guys are doing is sweet, and if Galloway urged everyone that the whole point of the program was to eventually cross the USA (and that Gallowalking 26 was no big deal at all and certainly worth slogging through), then I would endorse his program.
Run a little, walk a lot. Stop. Eat. Repeat. Rest the rest of the day and entire night. Do agian tomorrow. Yep, real hard stuff they're doing. They're a joke.
yeah, we're doing some walking out there and are not ashamed of it. who gives a crap? we're having fun and you're working. while you're sitting there be sure to check out today's update.......www.runtheusa.com

Puhleeze. Quit being a troll.
Can you tell me, by experience, how hard it is to go across the US? Can anyone on this board tell me?
If not, I would assume that it is not commonly done. If it is not commonly done, then I submit that there is a fair degree of difficulty and sacrifice involved to do it.
I have know idea who those guys are, but I'd love to do what they're doing as it will be (and has been in the training leading up to it) challenging, fun, and unforgetful.
Carry on Scott and Dave!! Your trip IS an inspiration to all of us who love to run!

Sorry gallow-chump, but I own my own business. Other people work for me. Enjoy your little gallo-trip and mooching off of other people. Soon, you'll be working to make money for someone else like people do for me.
As for the update, I think I'll pass on your exciting, juvenile exploits of mooching, eating Wendy's, Taco Bell and playing Playstaion 2.
Sounds like the guy with the long name is jealous and I would have to say below the age of 20 - maybe 15 or so whose business is a paper route or mowing yards.
I second GBF in this. I'm very jealous and wish I were running across the US right now. I think it's very impressive and I'm having fun following the progress. I'm all for anyone who desires to to drop their usual mundane lives and head out on adventures... life would be prettyyy borring without dreams and people who actually followed them.
Keep it up Scott and Dave!
Maybe must have long name to make up for short stick?
I've never covered 150 miles per week so I can not justify making derisive comments concerning their journey. But I did have a paper route and cut lawns in my youth.
Keep on putting one foot in front of the other foot dudes!
troll alert, everybody please ignore. Symptoms will go away and will not last much longer.
I agree. Those guys are running a shitload of miles and to not walk a little bit would only hurt them for the days ahead. I think they are doing great!
The dude raging on them probably cant even drive yet and is jealous because he has to get his mom to make his bed and pack his lunch for school. jerk

Yeah, real jealous of a couple of low life moochers who gallo-walk the weekly mileage of a lot of people here who actually RUN their mileage. And they aren't walking, stopping at Wendy's and chatting on their cell phone along the way. They also don't have the rest of the day to rest and play juvenile video games. They RUN their mileage, go to work, juggle family responsibility, deal with the stress of life and they run again the next day. These glory-seeking bums gallo-walk a few miles, rest, eat, gallo-walk some more, then take the rest of the day off. Quite a few people who post here can easily do what they're doing. They actually do it every week. And without the rest these freaks are getting. These two aren't doing anything special at all. In fact, it's laughable that they think they are.
....but it is newsworthy (check out all the newstories being done on them.) The others you mentioned will never make the news. This is unique and no one else is doing it. I think I will interview them on 60 minutes.
