Nice video.
That field was way too crowded, should have been divided in two races.
Green was in second with 100 to go and ran out of gas. Quite fine running for all of them.

Too bad this wasn't for a national title.

That Payamps (not Payumps) guy...what a loser! Affolder by a hair! They both get participation awards, though, to tack on the fridge back home.
Really, it was a bummer to watch so many kids in one race, and then to see some of the best (including Affolder and Payamps) get knocked out of contention as crunchtime was approaching. Yeah, every race can be like this, and it does happen on the biggest stage, even with fewer participants, and it sucks whenever it happens. Some runners are just in the wrong place at the wrong time, and it's not their fault. Just like NASCAR, really.
Most viewers love to see the tree shaken, but so often victims include favorites, or at least better runners.
So, we must congratulate the winners, as always, and hopefully the majority of us have it in us to feel sorry for those whose moments in the spotlight were simply ruined by what transpired.
The announcers (who were good, otherwise) should be chastised for implying that anyone affected by the collision set themselves up for disaster by not being clear of the potential danger. You know -- hey, if you don't want to get in a mess, be clear of the potential mess. Yeah, brilliant comment! Tell that to Payamps and Affolder, and maybe any others who were in a good place yet were still affected by the mess! And disaster can befall even a leader who, say, is clipped from behind.
Without a fall, several more guys under 4:03. Foster ran 57 for the last lap, he has a 4:00 in him.
Both mile fields were too big for such closely matched fields. OTOH they will encounter this again at the championship level as collegiates and open athletes, so they are getting valuable experience. Foster stayed near the front for a reason.

Big PR for Waskom. Does this make him second all time to Gerry Lindgren?
Joe has been a joy to coach since November of 2017. He's showed mental focus, consistent commitment, and a positive attitude. He's shown versatility as a strong cross-country runner and 2-miler. I think he was in 8:46 (2-mile) shape, but he chose to run the mile at the Brooks PR Invitational. (Thanks to his team coach for giving me the thumbs up to coach Joe.)
This August, Joe will soon a stellar group of freshman at the University of Washington. Soon, Coach Andy Powell will likely have his team contending for the NCAA Nationals Cross Country Championship title.
I've noticed that Nick Foster is not listed in the MileSplit outdoor rankings this year, even though the list, as of tonight (Monday, June 17) includes Brooks PR Invitational results for others. As far as I know, Nick's perfectly eligible for that list, right? He has the #1 mile time outdoors in the US, but Ryan Oosting is listed as #1.
My guess is that it's a simple database glitch, since his individual MileSplit page does show his Brooks PR Invitation win and time (which differs from malmo's given time by .01).
Yeah, that's gotta be it. Anyone else have an explanation?
Samuel Tanner raced the Mens 1500m at 18 years of age running 3:38.74
He now holds the New Zealand U19 and U20 Records...
Not second. Maybe third.
John Quade of Woodenville ran 4:03.59 back in 1985.

I see thank you.
Mr. Schwartz could you provide some information about Joe’s training? When did you start working with him? Joe has been a formidable runner for some time but I can’t be the only person surprised— in a good way, to see this specific result.
How will your HS athletes transition to programs like UW?

Thanks, Tinman. Wow -- Andy Powell's incoming freshman class at Washington is spectacular. Congratulations on your input into some great racing of late, at Brooks PR and elsewhere!
Just a MileStat database error? wrote:

That MileStat database is all funked up, and has been. Take the 2019 indoor 1600 rankings, for example. In the top five, Nick Foster IS there at fourth, but two from Iowa take the top two spots by a huge amount. An Idaho runner gets third, and another Iowa boy gets fifth, according to MileStat! And this was months ago, and MileStat hasn't fixed it. Avery Gatesdylan Deangelo and Gaven Campbellwill Bussey, you're off the charts GREAT, already-- and how about this Miguel Riosnoah Hattrupco's 4:04.23! Olympic Gold is a certainty whenever these first two Iowa boys wish to step up!
The top five 1600 runners from last indoor season, nationally, according to MileStat:

I am not affiliated with Tinman whatsoever. More than anything I want insight on how the UW program operates post-Metcalf but don’t tell anyone.
