Heals the heel. Gold coming in Tokyo!
Jerry probably has the worse record as far as injuring his athletes.
4% claims another!

*Jerry* claims another. Also, from someone who'd know, Shelby is HURT hurt. As in might not make it back in time for world's this year hurt. Hasn't run in a while.
So the video was interesting. Jorgensen had Haglund's deformity, which is the same condition Galen Rupp had surgery for after last fall's Chicago Marathon.
Rupp had the surgery on October 19, 12 days after Chicago. Jorgensen tried to get healthy without surgery and had PRP, but it wasn't working and ultimately had the surgery on May 17.
The doctors told her husband Pat Lemieux that the surgery went "perfect." Jorgensen said that she's hoping to get back to full training in 3-4 months (unlike with Rupp's surgery, they did not touch her Achilles tendon) but isn't putting a strict timeline on things as her #1 priority is to be healthy.
Also make sure you watch to the end as the last two minutes features outtakes with Jorgensen zonked out on meds post-surgery. It is HILARIOUS.

She had to have surgery for a bone growth deformity in her heel. Caused her a lot of pain in recent months and only surgery could fix it. Two weeks off entirely and then several months until back to 100% running. No plans for races in the future just getting healthy.
Tough scene. Now the race for gold in Tokyo is wide open. Her competitors must be squirming at this breaking news.
probably a career ending surgery
She will likely be able to return to pool and bike training fairly quickly. Running takes a little longer. Could be the best thing for her running career. Don't force the high mileage. Cross train. Maybe even focus on the 10,000?
Wow so Jorgensen, Flanagan and Infeld all had surgery, Shelby apparently hurt, Quigley just coming back from being hurt. I think Fraser is hurt too. That’s a lot of people from one group. Is it the training? The shoes? I guess maybe some are more prone to getting hurt (Ex: I don’t think Fredrichs has been injured her whole time with BTC).

Hilarious!
I don’t know why, but i can’t bring myself to click on gwen’s videos anymore. Perhaps its just an ad for Sleep Number beds?

Frerichs' background as a gymnast probably helps

Doesn't the 4% have a soft heel counter that would not inflame Haglund's issues?

If this is true about Shelby Houlihan, it reinforces the concept that you should ALWAYS go for fast times and records when you're firing on all cylinders. Shelby was on fire last year and should have kept going after records/times. Then shut it down and hope to do it again if possible....
The problem most runners (including myself!) seem to have is that they have a good string of races/a good season and they think they need to go harder the next year (more miles, faster workout etc) but it's a recipe for injury. If you just keep training without interruption you improve. Kipchoge is a great example of this.
Alan Webb ran his 800m, 1500m, and mile PB within less than a month of each other. Then fizzled and we all know the rest.
Jager should have chased sub 8:00 after he tripped and missed the mark and not assumed he would get it the next year.
It's hard, but runners should understand they may not recreate the form they're in ever again.

Don’t forget Jager and Ryan Hill!

True enough but there is a catch 22 here. If you want to be the best in the world and you are already basically there (e.g. Kipchoge who had already won a world championship in 2003 when he was 19 or 20), you have to keep reaching for the next plateau. There's just no way Kipchoge strategy gets Gwen to the Olympics in the marathon. She has no choice but to keep training longer and faster.
