I've heard that from a lot of people but my experience has been opposite. Since 2000 I've been keeping cars about 200K or 10 years (2 Ford SUV (130K and 115K miles) 's and 2 German sedans 205k / 165k miles) ) The Fords have been awful with major rust, wheel bearing replacements , exhaust, tbi (cel) issues. The Germans not so much. VW did have a cel fixed with an air pump, did need CV joints and regular timing belt replacements. Very little rust on VW or BMW despite many more miles, no exhaust failures at all, no wheel bearing failures. There were a few electrical issues on the BMW and the water pump failed.
