I’ll keep this pretty quick.
I have a meet tomorrow and need to figure out how I’ll score in the 1600.
There’s 2 kids in the race who are about 5:16 milers (lost to them 4 days ago)
And another kid in my school is around my time (5:35)
I know the other 2 kids are better but I’ve been feeling good and might have a shot here.
Now here’s my race plan, please critique
I know the slightly better of the two 5:16 kids from the other school has a habit of taking the first lap out blazing, 1:12 ish.
Their second kid runs a more even race and catches the better kid on his weak third lap, then gets outkicked by the better kid on lap 4.
The kid on my team is just going to sit on me and kick.
So the strategy is:
I want to go out sitting on the second kid from the other school, the one who runs a more even race and catches their other kid. Their first kid has more speed, and second, like me, has more aerobic strength. I can still run like a 62 400m though.
If i can hold their #2 i want to use everything i can to surge with about 450m left and then just run my heart out on that last lap.
The kid on my team who i want to beat can’t surge well, he runs too even of a race.
Assuming I’m in shape to have a shot at beating them, does this sound good?
